Yup you read that right.
Kid is going to be special.
quote:
"He had 600 pounds on the bar plus the (66-pound) chains so that’s all that can fit on the bar," Jackson said. "We thought we had it on there secure...but the clamp falls off and two of the plates slide off.
"This dude is so strong that the one leg of his recovers, he stands out with the bar and just finishes the squat and put it back."
The episode actually caused Jackson to have to special order different bars to allow Mack to squat.
'We have plenty of weights for him to lift...I guess what I didn’t anticipate – we use the standard bars that they use in all weight rooms," he said.
"I had to order special bars which finally made it to campus this week, Wednesday, that I’m going to have to use when he squats because we don’t have bars long enough to slide all the weight.
"We really don’t know what he can max one rep. We go up to six (or) seven hundred pounds and he’s still just repping. We can’t get enough weight on the bars to figure out what he can do for about a one- or two-rep max. We just put as much weight as we can get on the bar and just have him start doing reps."
Jackson had compliments for veterans such as Myles Garrett and Brandon Williams but he had a lot of good things to say about the true freshmen in general.
"You’ve got a lot of guys, they don’t talk a lot," he said. "They come in and they put in work. They know what they came in for, they know what league they’re playing in…They’ve got a serious, hungry look."
Kid is going to be special.

Arms are too short. Isn't 6'3". He is and will be a failure. Chavis is overrated, doesn't develop players.

Damn. You know you're a bad MoFo in the gym when Black Death doesn't have adequate equipment on hand to break you.

He's probably going to be awesome, yes.
Breaking lifting records doesn't mean that though. We've had some freaks in our weight room that were "meh" on the field.

If 600lbs requires a special bar at aTm then what bar were the D linemen at Arkansas squatting over 700lbs using?

If I had short little chubs for legs I could do that too

Daylon Mack is going to be a huge disappointment this year, calling it now
He will be like Clowney in that he will take plays off
Also he seems arrogant based on his recruiting process. Won't have the drive and therefore will be complacent.

How's his technique though?

While I'll agree that powerlifting doesn't necessarily translate to football prowess, Mack's first step is devastating. Even if he isn't getting sacks, he's going to be difficult to move out of the middle and he'll keep guys off the linebackers.

Oh, the Longhorn fan/sympathizer is butthurt about how Mack's recruiting went?
Color me surprised.

I have seen plenty of guys who were Tarzan in the weight room and Jane on the field.

Also coached by Chavis. Chavis had Anthony "Freak" Johnson who under Orgeron would have been a top 10 pick. Instead due to lackluster coaching he went undrafted

It's not really special. Power lifters just use the "right" bars to go over 600+ pounds.

You have to understand, at A&M a special bar is considered any piece of equipment not covered in semen

they said they could put 700 on it, but need a bigger one to see his 1 or 2 rep max.
probably holds 765.

All this tells me if your S&C team doesn't know what they're doing. 600# is more than manageable on a standard weightlifting bar.
Has your staff never worked with anyone strong before? Weird to see this problem at a Power 5 school.

Aggs are gonna be furious when all that talent doesn't make stops when they need to.
