Interesting Map. In tiers it looks like this to me.

Tier 1
Georgia
Alabama
Mississippi
Louisiana

Tier 2
South Carolina (should be T1 IMO)
Tennessee

Tier 3
Florida
North Carolina

Tier 4
Virginia
Kentucky
Arkansas
Texas

Tier 5
Oklahoma
Missouri
West Virginia

North Carolina just makes so much sense to be the next state but the ACC seems pretty tough to get into right now.

Sure, bring them into the West, send Alabama to the East and watch Auburn howl.

I see what ya did there.

If you want to go that route, 8 is the ideal number as I do miss the old Big 8, but in todays college sports environment, financial wise, it's not sustainable.

Oklahoma brings no TVs to the table. That means more mouths to feed with no return on investment. The last round of realignment showed who is worth a shite in realignment and who is not. OU...NOT.

While population/TV sets is certainly driving expansion in many ways, there are exceptions to every rule and OU is one of them. If you don't think OU brings viewers, you are blinding yourself by hate. Nebraska is a roughly equivalent state to Oklahoma and the Big Ten expanded there first over many other flagship schools with bigger populations (cough, Mizzou). This would be like arguing that the Big Ten or ACC won't expand for Notre Dame because there aren't enough viewers in northern Indiana.

With Boren's statements today, it sounds like there is some unrest in Sooner-land. As a Mizzou fan, I'm not sure I want them in this conference.

I like them right where they are, fading in the diminished B12. I like having the SEC brand to sell, and OU not having it.

Adding them to the West would probably involve shuffling Mizzou over the West too. I kind of like being in the East atm, but long term maybe that would be ok.

It would probably increase TV revenue for all teams, but not by much and would depend if/who they bring in as #16. I sure as #### don't want them if it means bringing along their little brother.

What say you?

I wouldn't mind having OU (and probably have to take Okie State too) in the SEC but for $$$ reasons I would prefer VT/UVA and NCST/UNC.

Based off Boren's comments yesterday I think that unless Texas backs off and admits that the LHN was a failure and allows a Big-12 network, the Big 12 is dead when their TV contract and GOR expires in 2024. That is when the 4 16-team conferences form.

PAC-16:
current PAC-12 + Texas, Texas Tech, OU, and Okie State
SEC:
current SEC + NCST (or ECU) and VT (if we can't get VT I think the SEC should try and get VCU to start football but we probably take WVU)
Big 16:
Big 10 + UVA and Kansas
ACC:
Miami, FSU, GT, Clemson, UNC, Duke, Wake, WVU, Cincy, UL, ND, Pitt, Syracuse, BC, UConn, and another AAC team or get VCU to sponsor football to keep a team in Virginia.

The Big 12 leftovers (TCU, Baylor, ISU, and KSU) join either the MWC or AAC and make that conference the best of the rest.

Last 10 seasons...

8-4 / Russell Athletic, arse whipping by Clemson 6-40 (attendance 40K)
10-2 / Sugar Bowl, beat Alabama 45-31 (attendance 70K)
10-2 / Cotton Bowl, arse whipping by Texas A&M 13-41 (attendance 87K)
9-3 / Insight, beat Iowa 31-14 (attendance 54K)
11-2 / Fiesta, beat UNRANKED Uconn 48-20 (attendance 67K)
7-5 / Sun Bowl, beat Stanford 31-27 (attendance 54K)
12-1 / BCS game, got beat by Gators 14-24

The game against the Gators was with OU in a power conference that had a CCG, possibly the peak for the Sooners. Not like they have been burning up the bowl games since or killing attendance numbers. Sure, the Bama and TAMU games drew well but it was helped greatly by the other schools fans. The farther the B12 gets away from a CCG the less relevant they will be. In addition the more the footprint of the B12 shrinks, the more the corresponding coverage will be.

Again, not saying OU was not a power in the Big 12, because they were. Just saying with the defection of the upper teams from the B12 and not the lower ones, the conference (and hence its members) will decline over the next decade. With both AR and TAMU in the SEC the state of TX will be split for recruiting and OU may move to #4 behind austin and the 2 SEC schools.

What did I do? I think playing everyone in your conference is a better way of declaring a champion than having two divisions and a championship game. The championship game doesn't always feature the two best teams.

Playing 9 conference games still lets you have 3 non-conference games.

If anyone goes to the East, it would be Auburn. Geographically speaking.

I really doubt that OU would be allowed to leave OK State in the wind. Okie state would have to have a stable situation for that to even happen.

At least KU won an Orange Bowl. Mizzou never even made it to a BCS Bowl. Mizzou is still trying to recover from the scars Mangino left on their little program.

Well this is the SEC board so I was alluding to Mizzou being compared to Kentucky football. KU is Kansas, UK is Kentucky.

You send Alabama or Auburn East and you lose either TSIO or DSOR.

Those are the two most important rivalries in the conference along with the Iron Bowl obviously.

It just won't happen.

We will go to no divisions with 3 rivals and 5 rotating games before we do that. Or 9 conference games.

If the SEC wants to expand again, they need to focus on Virginia and North Carolina.

I think we all agree on this point. VT + NC State are the best fits for the SEC in my mind, but any combo of Virginia/VT + UNC/NC State would work.

So how did Maryland get out of that again?

The GOR was put in place after Maryland jumped ship. Maryland was suing to avoid paying the $50 million exit fee. Their argument was since they voted against it they were only required to pay the $15million exit fee that they voted for awhile back. IIRC

Never say never. Especially for Va Tech, which the ACC spurned for years.

Nothing happens until 2024 at the earliest and the SEC might just have to pull an ACC and wait 2 seasons for our new members in VT and NCST to arrive in 2026.

Well that's just a dumb thing to say.

They have fans nationwide.

Hes right though. You add programs to a conference because of television stations that will carry the SEC Network. Oklahoma does not bring in viewers for the SEC Network. However you are correct as well. OK plays in major bowls which brings in cash and they increase the appeal of the SEC which increases the value of the brand.

I understand what you are saying man, and I don't disagree. This mentality (again I don't disagree with it) though is out dated as the current landscape to have a CCG is important for the playoffs. Plus, I believe it brings extra revenue to the conference by adding that game.

F*ck additional expansion. 12 was fantastic. 14 is more of a hassle. 16 would suck. Expansion really decreases conference cohesion IMO.

When we got to 16 (its going to happen ESPN wants it) pods will be the only way to go. If you stick with an 8 game conference schedule you play 3 pod games, 2 permanent opponent and rotate 2 home and 1 away conference games every year. Let assume we add NCST and VT. The pods and scheduling works nicely:
West:
TAMU
LSU
OM
MSU
North:
Mizzou
Arky
Kentucky
Vandy
Central:
Bama
Auburn
Tenn
UGA
(trying to make sure we don't lose the rivarlies that Bama is so worried about)
East:
NCST
VT
UF
USCe

LSU would make Arky (to preserve the Battle for the Boot) and UF our permanent rivals we could play away at the other teams once every 5-6 years which brings much better conference cohesion than what we have now. The 2 SEC teams with the best records would play in the SECCG.

Oklahoma is joined at the hip with Ok State, I don't think legislatures in Oklahoma would ever allow it.

This point above is correct, it's a PACKAGE DEAL with OK. You cannot pick ou and anybody other than okie lite, period. Because of this alone, I don't see the state of OK coming to the SEC. This is big biz now. The SEC must go east to the states of VA and NC...yes, the GOR is in play. VA or NC > all of OK. It's all about population (TV sets) and a 16-team conference is coming. Five years ago things changed and there is more change coming eventually. Boren basically asked for change with his statement.

texass...if you play with turds, you get them on your hands. ou trusted texass, now look. Somebody earlier said "it's in their DNA". This could not be more true. I know a bunch of good folks in TX, but the Austin variety is not the same. They think that they are above all others. They are the type "the end justifies the means". It's pretty on paper but NOT worth it. Do NOT go there SEC. If you do, it will be regretted later. TX and OK are already watching the SEC Network, nothing to gain.

Send Bama and Auburn East, Missouri and Oklahoma to the West. But we need another team. So the divisions would look like this. But may not be balanced enough, so Alabama may have to stay in the West and have the East pick up another team:

SEC West

Arkansas
LSU
Mississippi
Mississippi State
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas A&M
?????

SEC East

Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
Kentucky
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
