Who ranked him as #1? If they did, it is going off strictly combines or camps because that game film is not that impressive when you factor in the competition. And as a Clinton graduate you should know about the difference in competition (ie. Going up against the likes of Brandon, Meridian, MC, Starkville, SP etc....is a tougher test than what he is facing). Plus I need to know what service it was so I can pay little attention to their rankings going forward.
According to the 247 Composite, which pulls from all of the recruiting sites, he is ranked as the #1 player in the state of Mississippi for the Class of 2017. Hate on all of them.
ETA: Yes, being from Clinton I know the competition Akers is facing is much tougher than Morton. However, Akers is playing out of position as a QB whereas he'll be a RB in college. He's going to need some time to adjust the college game, just like Bowie, because he has zero experience pass blocking.

I've seen both Brown and Metcalf in person and they are absolute cannot miss beasts.
I haven't seen Bowie, other than film, but it's hard for me to say he's better.

Fair enough.

I had it backwards. Composite 1, 24/7 2.

True. I think GT offered him as a QB. Hopefully he's not dumb enough to bite on that.

I have watched Brown, Duncan and Metcalf live numerous times. Duncan is definitely elite and honestly it is all a toss up on which one is the best. Metcalf likely is the best of them but was hurt by a bad 40 time in a combine recently. However Brown is extremely physical and I would actually love to see him switch to LB because I think he would be a future NFL player as one. As for Bowie I imagine I have seen him on the 7on7 curcuit in the past but honestly he never stood out like some of the kids like the athletes I just mentioned or the Meridian trio.

I honestly don't know how Brown isn't rated 95+. He's not a 99, granted, but how you get 92 is hard for me to follow.

He looks like a giraffe in his 247 picture on the frontpage of the website. I was like who is this basketball player Bama just got who is all neck

I can't see that myself. That's fine though, we're talking opinions here after all.

LULZ.
I didn't even see it until you said something, but damn.

I don't get it either. He routinely dominates DBs and pounds the ever living shite out of them. I watched him block a kid from one side of the field all the way downfield and then planted him 5 feet out of bounds. Granted he outweighed the DB by +30 pounds

Not many saw McKinney as a LB either.....but ended up being a second Rd draft pick as one. Just don't see the overall agility in him as some other WR have (the "stop on a dime, then be at top end speed within the next step/escapabilty that others such as Duncan have). However he has plenty of it to play LB IMO

Well he did play QB and LB in high school. I don't think Brown plays defense at all.

The several games I watched last year he made several defenses look absolutely silly when they would throw him a screen. Didn't seem to lack that kind of agility when I saw him.

He looks like a B-ball player in that photo. He looks normal everywhere else

Brown has agility and maybe he has improved upon it from last summer & football season (throw in the times I have seen him play basketball also)....just not to the Metcalf, Akers, Duncan and Sophomore year Dear etc...level. His overall agility reminds me a lot of T. Smith who graduated from MC last year and signed with Louisville. MSU wanted Smith not as an offensive player but wanted him to switch to LB for the exact reason. Who knows, time will tell where it all pans out but I don't see him having the NFL career his Dad had (Jimmy) on the offensive side of the ball but Petrino may work wonders.

Also it is very rare that a player goes both ways in 5A or 6A football unless there are depth issues. Got to place the player where he has the best chance to impact the team and Starkville definitely had plenty of Defenders last year and with Brady/the offense they ran they needed all the good receivers they could field (wonder if Woods will take them back to the ground & pound he is know for?)

AJ Brown is not playing WR because Starkville already has plenty of good players on defense, and needed extra receivers. I'm hoping that I just interpreted that wrong instead of you meaning that.
AJ Brown is an elite WR. He didn't get put there because he couldn't make an impact in another position.

Who knows, but I sure hope not.

I am saying that he is playing WR because he has the best chance of helping the team win there (which every coach has to decide with such talents.....plus SHS is stacked on the D with that SS, LBs and the DL they had.....but then again they did have 2 Sr. linemen play both ways last year). He is an elite talent regardless of which side of the ball he plays.

With a gun to my head, this kid signs with Ole Miss. Also, gun to head, Raekwon Davis flips to MSU.
