06 seems reasonable enough to me. He admits the SEC is still the best. Clearly the gap closed last year. It doesn't mean it is a trend, but it might be. We all have that to look forward to next year. Auburn, LSU, and TAM clearly regressed from the previous year. At best Bama stayed even. OM, State, and Pigs looked better(helps when the teams you play are not as good). The east won some bowl games(thank goodness) but was basically a shite show.

I also think FSU and Oregon could have potentially won the SEC.
This is where you lost all credibility. You think FSU who slipped by "good" and weak ACC teams could have won the SEC? FSU would have at least lost 3 games in the SEC. Oregon's run defense got exposed in the title game and when the numbers didnt match up Mariota was no longer the same QB. They also lost to Arizona. Oregon would have lost at least 3 games in the SEC also.

OSU would've won the SEC last year. Anyone saying otherwise is delusional
Given their VT accident and the close game against Bama, it's not unreasonable to think they could have slipped up somewhere and lost the division by a game. shite happens to the best teams.

I guess it goes back to my contention that the SEC was not as strong as you perceive. There aren't enough inter-conference games among top teams to draw strong conclusions, but I didn't see the SEC west as dominant as you apparently did. Alabama was lackluster against WV, so was Auburn against KSt. LSU beat Wisconsin, but it was not impressive at all. And then the late season spate of OOC losses, including UGA and MSU to GT, Ole Miss getting whitewashed, etc., did nothing to change my perception.

The SEC West was overrated last year, and probably will be again this year.

I haven't read this whole thread, but it's very reasonable to think OSU would have slipped up with a tougher schedule. Sure the SEC wasn't as dominant last year as it has been recently, but their schedule was a joke. It was week NINE before they faced anyone worth the slightest shite, and they got them at home. The only other pretty good team they played (no, I'm not counting minnesota) before the playoffs was in the conference title game.
Granted, they won those games. But when you have 1 regular season game and a championship to REALLY get up for...that's laughable. If they had to play auburn, ole miss, msu, bama, lsu, and someone from the east it's not a stretch at all to think they'd have slipped up a time or two. And unfortunatley for the rest of america, they get just as easy a road next year, where they don't play their first really tough game until late november.

Even if they both played in the East I could definitely see UGA beating FSU..maybe Oregon. Florida's defense was dominate at times last year and I know they lost to FSU, but they also whipped UGA so you never know what could have been if they played Oregon. Tennessee would have at least given both a good game then cross division (Bama, LSU, Miss State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Arkansas) all of those teams could have definitely beaten FSU and some maybe Oregon. Let's not forget Oregon lost to ARIZONA.

I think FSU and Oregon would have waxed us last year. We started the season with a defensive secondary in complete disarray. Kicked off three of four starters in the offseason, had a ton of other db attrition. We got lucky and faced very few teams that had an even adequate passing game for the rest of the year. We wouldn't have been able to keep up with either Oregon or FSU, IMO.

Absolutely agree. I said before the VT loss was awful, but some of it could be attributed to losing the bye week OSU had scheduled before that got moved by the TV powers.
OSU beat the F out of Maryland in early October. That is when I would say they really started to click, as Maryland was an average to goodish type team and OSU did it on the road. OSU was somewhat average in September

Solution: remove pre season polls
"Pre-season" polls should simply be the final ranking of the previous season. Offers continuity as a replacement for hype. I'd even allow pre-bowl rankings.
1 Alabama
2 Oregon
3 Florida St
4 Ohio State
5 Baylor
6 TCU
7 Mississippi State
8 Michigan State
9 Ole Miss
10 Arizona
11 Kansas State
12 Georgia Tech
13 Georgia
14 UCLA
15 Arizona State
16 Missouri
17 Clemson
18 Wisconsin
19 Auburn
20 Boise State
21 Louisville
22 Utah
23 LSU
24 USC
25 Minnesota
Simple

It would be embarrassIng if Arkansas won the west.
Really? Why is that? We should be a pretty good team this season. And all kidding aside this is the year the winner of the SECW drops two games.
