I like both, but I'll take Hank Sr.

I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry is the best country song ever. Top 5 of any genre.

It is definitely one of my favorites. I also really like "I heard that lonesome whistle blow" almost as much. He has so many good ones and his lyrics and sound are straightforward and awesome.

His version of I Saw the Light is probably my personal favorite.

Love them both, but…
Hank Jr.
Cash
Hank Sr.
Hank III
Hank Jr.
Cash
Hank Sr.
Hank III

I love them all, to paraphrase TG Shepard.
Hank Sr. and Cash are legends.
If you haven't listened to Hank Jr.'s 70's stuff (New South, etc.) then you haven't heard his best.
Waylon is the greatest in my book, though.
And don't forget the Hag.

Neither were good singers, but Hank as a songwriter by a long shot.

Florida Georgia Line
Big and Rich
Dixie Chicks

Which Hank you talking about? Cause Sr. could straight up sing like nobody's business.

I like them both but Hank's songs evoke the most emotion in me. Hank, jr. is okay but nothing like Sr.
In general, I like the older country music much better than current.

Completely agree.

Hank Sr wrote gut wrenching songs with a style the basic person could understand. I would give him the nod over Cash.
I like older country music.
Ray Price
Ernest Tubbs
George Jones
Willie
Waylon
I'll even throw Patsy Cline in there. She had an unbelievable voice.

Hank Sr. is the grandfather of the outlaws. Dude lived hard and fast and left a handsome corpse (also my great-grandfather's first cousin - Georgiana, AL represent!).
Cash is my favorite of the two - I think Cash was a better rock-n-roll pioneer than Elvis.
For my money, though, I take Waylon over all of them.

I'd add
Marty Robbins
Conway Twitty
Tammy Wynette
Loretta Lynn
Porter Wagoner
to that great list.

We also have to remember that Hank Sr. was 29 when he died. The others mentioned have decades worth of songs. Hank Sr. left a lot on the table.

Hank sr. is arguably the greatest American folk songwriter. Cash and/or jr. couldn't hold his martin.
