College World Series Finals: Third Most-Viewed Baseball Game in 2014 and Most-Viewed CWS game since 2009
ESPN’s telecast of the third, and deciding game, of the College World Series Finals – Vanderbilt defeating Virginia 3-2 – averaged a 1.6 US HH rating and 2,388,000 viewers, making it the highest-rated and most-viewed College World Series game since 2009 when ESPN averaged a 1.7 US HH rating and 2,500,000 viewers for Game 1 of the CWS Finals.
In addition, ESPN’s 1.6 US HH rating for the final game of the college baseball season ranks as the third highest-rated baseball game – professional and college – across all cable and broadcast networks behind two of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball matchups.

Monday night’s victory by the University of Connecticut over University of Notre Dame in the NCAA Women’s National Championship earned a 2.8 US rating

The highly anticipated matchup averaged 3.21 million households

Men's NIT numbers^

Conclusions:
-The only televised women's sport has a monopoly on female sports fans and yet its national championship only outdrew Game 3 of the CWS by a margin of 3.2 to 2.3 million viewers.
-The men's NIT championship was outdrawn by Game 3 of the CWS by a margin of 2.3 to 1.3 million viewers

I'd say college baseball is holding up pretty damn well considering not only the impact of the disaster that is Title 9, but also the fact that half the country can't get behind their college team because it's too cold for them to play/practice for much of the season.

It's a nice little regional sport that is the 4th or 5th most followed college sport in America (depending on region).

Keep this all in mind when you hear someone on this board say College Baseball is the #2 NCAA sport behind College Football and ahead of College Basketball

I've literally never seen this posted here.

This is the SEC Rant, and in the SEC, or at least the SEC West, baseball is as popular or more popular than men's basketball and way above any other sport (other than football, of course).

There are several SEC teams whose baseball teams outdraw their men's basketball teams.

I love college baseball but it's rarely on. Hopefully the SEC network changes things regarding it.

Big 10 has a point in wanting the season to start later. College World series in JULY or August could work. Thus, more school's across the country could have decent teams.

Baseball is not more popular than basketball in the SEC West. It's just that they have sucked at basketball for the last 15 years.

we got a glimpse of what baseball looked like with max entertainment value, and it was awesome. now we have this, mlb and college snoozefest. hard to go back for me, i've tuned out completely on the sport because it does nothing for me in its current state.

i hope that the purists are happy.

Why do some people insist on hating on college baseball? Is it a jealousy thing of schools like USCe, LSU, Ole Miss, etc that love it?

Nah, it's just that the SEC Rant is dominated by LSU fans, who nonetheless claim it is a neutral board, and hence the vast majority of people who don't give a shite about college baseball are confused and annoyed by the constant college baseball discussion as if it is a relevant thing in the more developed parts of the country.

Used to love it when the bats were hot. The CWS went from one of my favorite sporting events, to something I can't even watch. Sad.
So you enjoyed that 21-14 championship game between USC and Arizona State? They went over board with cooling down the bats for sure. But back when LSU use to hit 200 HRs a season as a team was not baseball. It was HR Derby. I enjoy college baseball. Will go to 30 or so State games and watch another 20 or so on TV/computer. Will sit through most of the games at the SEC tournament. I love it!

I would say the same thing about college baseball.

I don't really care for either, but if it's on the TV and I'm feeling lazy I won't change it.

So let's be little Kanye's and tell everybody that they're wrong for enjoying something which they enjoy and they should enjoy something else more because it's more popular and being more popular is the be all end all. I mean, how the hell can you actually enjoy something that isn't popular? frick that, we'll tell them just how unpopular it is so they'll feel shitty for liking it!

This thread is funny to read.

I like CBB to a point, just for the collegiate atmosphere - not for the competition. If you are looking for that, you are at the wrong place.

If you are looking at it from a pure sport perspective, you find better players, competition, and things to do as a fan at a minor league baseball game.
