Economic reasons for starters. The South had gotten lazy from selling cotton and slaves, and had fallen way behind the North in infrastructure. As the soil got depleted, it became obvious that an economy based solely on free labor and cotton wasn't going to last forever.
When California became a state, they recognized the inevitable decline of the South's economy and decided they didn't want slavery in California.
Patriotic reasons also led to the decline of slavery. Unlike moral reasons which would dictate that slavery is an issue of basic human decency, people started to recognize the hypocrisy of the Declaration of Independence. The public started changing their ideas about slavery because they realized it was wrong as an American, not just as a human being.
Economic and patriotic reasons were actually far more effective in getting slavery abolished. We could go into a whole discussion about the differences among Abolishionists and Anti-Slavery proponents if you like. A lot of people think they're the same thing.

How how much longer until weed is legal?!

I understand your points completely.
I mean at the end of the day slavery is terrible and should have been ended on moral reasons alone, what you just detailed is the fed overstepping its boundaries on an economic level. Removing the moral ambiguity or slavery from the situation, the Fed should have let them succeed or fail on their economy's merit.
I would suspect that that's just something you and I would not agree on.

So North Dakota should be able to infringe on the rights of some of its people because it's "good" for them?
States shouldn't be able to deny brothers/sisters, first cousins, etc. from marrying like they do now?

Not everyone is interested in civil rights, but some people are.

What civil rights are included in marriage?

You remember when we captured and imprisoned all those buttfrickers from Buttfricker Land, sailed them back to America and forced them into slavery?
Remember that?

Just wait and see what we'll be doing in 30 years!!!!! What's illegal now will become taboo, and then eventually accepted and legalized.

You're the one equating buttfrickers not getting married with slavery, not me.

Because not giving a frick is why we're where we are now.

Now you're the third person in this thread to fail to understand a simple argument.

Frick the federal government.

Why do some people hate gays so much and want to control their lives and restrict their rights? Whats the argument for these hateful people? I could not care less, their gay lives dont impact me on a daily basis. In fact 99% of the impact i hear about gays is when some angry person on the internet is trying to make some backwards argument about why the government should allow it, instead of why the government should disallow it. If you are going to control some ones rights, the same rights you give to other people, the burden of proof is on you.

What Constitutional Right have they been denied up to today?
