I agree...the hire won't be a big name and most Arky boards will melt.
Based on everything I've seen from CBB he will make a great hire

Personally I wouldn't mind moving Lunney up to TE/OC & bringing in a dedicated QB coach.

I will once again, because it has become my bit, throw out the "not a dark horse, but a pitch black horse" candidate in former NDSU and current Wyoming OC Brent Vigens.
Now he had a rough year at Wyoming this season, but its Wyoming. It is that rare case of going from the FCS level to the FBS level and having a severe drop off in talent. At NDSU his teams featured strong rushing teams that had an efficient passing attack and were deadly in the red zone. His style of play calling would fit in perfectly for what we want to do.
Why he won't get the job is his lack of experience in recruiting the South. Ohio State proved there is some talent up North, but our bread and butter is recruiting the South and Texas and he doesn't have the connections to do that.
Kevin Kelley might make a good addition to the coaching staff... but I'm not sure he is ready to be the OC just yet. For one thing his hyper aggressive never punt style is unlikely to get implemented in a conference like the SEC where teams can stomp a mudhole in you bad if you make mistakes.
Weinke would be a fine addition to our staff handling QBs.
I'm cautiously optimistic about any change in OC at this point in time. Hell, hire Georgia Southern's OC and install the triple option for all I care. At the moment I am basking in the no more reverses inside the ten yard line glow.

One of the comments to Coach B's statements.

@BretBielema Tell Darius not to create an account on Hogville. He might get banned for taking up for you and Brandon Allen.

Hogville is such an abortion of a message board.

It could work but I would personally melt down a bit. I'm not expecting a huge name or anything but Lunney? I would rather shoot a little higher first.

On the coaching front: Word I hear is Bret Bielema has interviewed former OC and WR coach Jay Norvell this week.

I could dig it if we can get rid of Michael Smith. Norvell for OC/WR (or maybe co-OC?) and a dedicated QB coach.
If that doesn't get KJ Hill on board then nothing will.

Norvell - OC/WR
Weinke - QB
Thomas - RB
Lunney - TE
Pittman - OL
I could actually get behind this one.

Do we actually have a shot with Weinke or is that all just speculation? He seems pretty entrenched with IMG

Most likely just speculation.

looks like Smith has no place to go so we might be stuck with him another year
make or break year for Thomas next season

Rick Shaeffer on Drive Time just said Joel Thomas signed an extension so now Smith is only one that could be heading out.

So what's the reason for people not loving Joel Thomas? Is it just a lack of landing recruits? Our running backs are doing a good job and would have been even more productive than they were if Chaney hadn't gone Paul Tardtrino in close games.

Thomas has coached our RBs just fine but he's done jack shite on the recruiting trail. I like Rawleigh but he is NOT the best we should have been able to get this year.

Thomas was very good at Washington and he's been solid here, anyone that hates on him is just pretty dumb, all there is to it.
People put way too much into recruiting without looking at the variables. How many stud RB's last year or year before wanted to come to a place knowing JWill is the starter and AC3 was the #2 and no one was beating them out for at least 2 years. That's a tough sell along with every other factor.
This class/next class we need to pull in a stud, still very interested to see what Juan Day can offer this spring and into next year as the 3 back replacing Marshall.

Well if we lose Robb Smith then we start all over again. I think, and I pray, we can replace Chaney and have an upgrade for our system of football. Losing Robb Smith would move us from a team that probably won't win the West but will have a lot to say about who does to a team that hopes they get a bowl game.

That's a cop out. There are numerous places that have no trouble pulling a stud RB every year despite loaded backfields. Bielema at Wisconsin even. Thomas has been the weakest recruiter on staff.
