Why the hell do people call Ole Miss the Harvard of the South?

I know I posted earlier and I'm sorry for posting twice in a day on this board but here is my statement.
This post ties in with an earlier post (What is the University of Mississippi?), which called out Ole Miss on many of its faults, and I am here for one of those faults
First off, the people who designed the color scheme of Ole Miss might be colorblind. They got Harvard red, which they fricked up because if anything, MSU's maroon is closer to Harvard's crimson. Then they tried for Yale blue which they also failed at, and honestly, LSU's purple is closer to Yale blue.
If anyone were to claim the title of Harvard of the South in the SEC, it would be Vandy, but in all honesty, they don't come very close to Harvard either.
There are only two other schools outside of the Ivy League in America that can be compared to Harvard, and those two schools are Duke and Stanford.
Ole Miss is a place where rich dumb white kids who suck at school go, poor in state people who are probably really talented at what they like, but are too poor to afford anything else and they want a decent education for a cheaper price, or for scholarship athletes who are mostly retarded and no matter what school you look at, take bogus classes.
And that is my statement.

Same reason people call Nicholls State Harvard on the bayou. Its a joke.

They don't. If they do, it is what we call a joke. Intended for laughs.

I never hear people refer to Ole Miss as the Harvard of the South.

Never once heard that one.

Not even close. UVA, Duke, UNC and several others have stronger claims to that. Vandy has a great rep and is a VERY good school but there are others with better claims.

Because they act as stuck up as the true elites of America who go to Harvard in spite of the fact that their university is a no account backwater.

Emory University actually is the "Harvard of the South"
They say it about Ole Miss because it's a hilarious joke

Because they're both old, tired and have inflated opinions of themselves?
In any event, this is primarily a sports forum, so who gives a shite?

Everyone knows Harvard is the UGA of the North.

Swanee/University of the South is another that is a really good school. Folks don't realize it but we have tons of great schools here in the South and our public unis are VASTLY underrated.

I did PhD work at University of Texas at Arlington. A lot of people called it "Harvard on the freeway". It was meant as a joke.

Really UNC ---Harvard of the South ?
You drive to slowly through Chapel Hill and they will try to throw a diploma at your car.

This only applies to scholarship athletes.

Because neither one of them has been good at football in many, many decades.
