I mean if a guy breaks off a 50 yard run I don't really fault them for taking a breather for a play or 2.

nd OL does need a good bit of credit. However, what % of our run plays have the RB contact at or behind the line of scrimmage this year?
Most of the time our RBs are hit behind the line due to stunts and blitzes because teams know what is coming...we're running it right at them. When you run the type of offense we have been running this year you MUST have a RB that can either make a guy miss or break a tackle because the defense will use numbers to try and stop it.

One thing I liked seeing about Chubb against Arkansas that surprised me (but probably shouldn't have) was his straight line speed when he had no obstacles in front of him.
On that long TD run after he broke through the middle, he out-ran every player on the field.
That made me all warm and fuzzy inside, and made me glad to be a human on planet Earth at this moment in history.

I'm not ready to crown Chubb just yet, but I do appreciate the fact that he doesn't have to get in somebody's face after he makes a play.

Screw it, let's crown him. I almost forgot about his demeanor.
It's perfect.

Chubb is in better shape or at least seems to be hence the "more durable" statement.
Gurley's conditioning and his upright running style are the only two dings on him that I've read from NFL scouting reports.

Isn't a lot of the conditioning talk about Gurley based on the 2nd half of last season? That was pretty understandable given his high ankle sprain and the fact that he couldn't stay in game condition with that injury.
I'm just happy this is so much better than the days of Samuel (a DGD) as the starter with Ealey and King backing him up. We are probably gonna have two 1000 yard backs this season (if Gurley comes back). And Chubb is climbing the conference ranks, already more yards and TDs than Bama's leading rusher Yeldon.

For me it is mostly a perception.
I don't think ANYBODY is coplaining about Gurley, and I thik we are ALL very happy to have Chubb and Michel to back him up. We are in better shape this year than last.
I gotta tell you, though, I LOVE watching Douglass run, too. Wish he had gotten in the game a bit more against Arkansas, but we really needed to work on the pass game, and that allowed Chubb time to recover in between runs. It was a great mix of un/pass. I REALLY think our coaching staff is dialed in this year, on both sides of the ball. This is the perfect tie to be improving, and hopefully we will just get better and better as the season moves along.

Wonder if they let Desmond read that before it was published

Gurley is irrelevant and will be forgotten. Chubb is the REAL DEAL.

Uh didn't Gurley play his whole freshman year without an injury? He didn't really get injured to the point that he was out until last season.
Yes. Which is why I figured he meant conditioning more than durable. He (Daveydowner)confirmed this.

Well, I don't think Gurley is, or ever will be irrelevant. But, I DO think Chubb is the real deal. He ran the ball 38 times against Missouri and looked as if he could tote it another 10-15 tiems. I was shocked at how fesh he appeared.

Gurley averages 8.2 yards a rush. Chubb averages 5.7. Chubb is carrying the ball a lot more because he doesnt get the big chunks of yardage that Todd gets. Im sure if Todd was averaging under 6 yards a carry, he would have had games of 30 or more rushes.

Why even say this? How much time has Gurley missed this year because of Injury. Enjoy Chubb, but don't shite on our superstar.
I THINK he meant that Chubb is more durable from the sense that he does not seem to tire. He always seems fresh from start to finish.
Dave? You know what you meant....can you elaborate?
Been busy installing a new mailbox post. :)
First, why even say this? Because it's an observation I felt worth sharing. You may a agree or disagree and that's OK. It's a message board where we exchange information, ideas, whatever.
Second, I in no way meant it as a slight to Gurley. As I have said several times, the guy gives it his all on every play and expends a lot of energy so I completely understand his need for relief. It's just that I have noticed that Chubb doesn't need relief as often and seems to be in better shape/condition than Gurley. And yea, no doubt that injuries have hampered Gurley's conditioning. Oh, and for what it's worth, Chubb already has more carries than Gurley in limited duty with 99 to 94 carries respectively.
