Kirby Smart ain't nothin but a big ole pu$$y. Either he's HCIW at Bama or he's an epic moron. Last go he made the correct, albeit shrewd, call. This time the world was his oyster and he pissed himself.

Great hire!!

Is KO gone? Our job site said we are hiring lb not db coach

Because we knew the DC would have DB experience. The LB posting is to replace grantham.

Another thing I think is interesting to ponder is..Grantham resigned on Sunday and barely after lunch on Tuesday we have a)been turned down by our #1 choice and b)been accepted by our second choice.

That's a loooot of stuff to go on in 2 days. I wonder how far back this thing went? Rumors have gone around saying Grantham was told after missouri to find other work, but I mean I wonder how far back we were reaching out to others to see their interest?

I still would have loved to get Smart, but Pruitt is still a big get. I'm happy.

The main guy from the other board posted what went down:

-Last night, as posted, Kirby was offered the deal..5 years/1.6m
-We agreed to let him hire his own staff and bring in cochran
-Kirby called this morning and said a)no buyout clause for 2 years if a HC job opened and b)more importantly, he would be named the next coach. Essentially the HCIW tag.
-We refused to give in to that last one, and got pruitt a few hours later.

Take all that FWIW, that's just what was posted elsewhere.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if this has been months in the work

It would give me faith that CMR and GM actually still care about competing nationally (even its if just a lil bit)

So glad it is not Smart. He doesn't even run the defense.. it is all Saban.

That's completely false.

This is accurate. I heard the exact same thing from someone in the media I completely trust on these matters.

I wonder if KS was trying to play hardball thinking we'd cave because it seems odd that he'd make the HCIW a deal breaker. Especially given that he got everything else he wanted.

Agree that ^ is false. Smart is a helluva coach and would've been an outstanding fit. I am excited to have Pruitt in the Dawg house tho. Good hire

Posted to FSF. May be true, may not. But it could certainly make sense.

quote:

From an insider: Kirby was indeed offered the job last night at 1.6 Million for 5 years. UGA agreed to let him hire his staff AND hire Cochran. This morning he apparently called to say yes……BUT wanted a no buyout clause if he got a HC job in the first 2 years and this is the biggie….he wanted to be told he would be the next head coach. That was the deal breaker. UGA was not willing to do that. As soon as Kirby told CMR he wanted the HCIW title he picked up the phone and called Pruitt and a hand shake deal was complete by lunch time.

ETA: Same as posted above, just in block text form

Anything I read on any board is taken with a grain of salt because it is all BS. Everyone knows someone, who knows nothing.

Everything else would be a lateral move. He has a cush job so why leave outside of it being his Alma Mater. I could see him making a few demands because he thought we wanted him that bad. I hope he is a little butthurt today but i'm thinking this is all just bologna and he never got an offer or a serious look.

Not everything is BS. There are some people, on some message boards, that do have legit inside info.

I used to live and work in Hoover. I emailed a bama guy out there who has HHS connections and he sent me this:

quote:

Pruitt is the next Kirby. I met him at Harrah’s in New Orleans after the LSU game. He knows [names redacted] really well. He will do well at UGA and is a great recruiter. He is intense and no nonsense. Obviously, FSU thought he would take the 15% pay increase, but hard to turn down the numbers UGA threw his way. May be best hire Richt has made.
