So Cap1 would definitely take Mizzou AND Auburn over us?
I understand the need to protect the loser of the SECCG, but that's only if the loser has the potential to slip to the Peach, etc. I don't think the loser would have a great argument if they drew the Cotton. It has plenty of prestige.

I've heard Ray Tanner and Steve Spurrior have been lobbying HARD in the SEC office to make sure we get into Cotton Bowl, and the Outback Bowl wants LSU

Right, they're lobbying hard to make sure we don't slip to the Peach. But if Cap1 wanted to take us I don't think anyone would be upset. They're technically a better bowl and they pick ahead of Cotton.
My question is why are we pushing so hard for Dallas? Why not push for Cap1 to take us and Cotton to take SECCG loser (who will be closer in geography)? Is Cap1 saying they wouldn't take us? Or their preference for Mizzou/Auburn is that much greater than us that they wouldn't work w/ Cotton to make sure they got a closer team?

I'd be upset with Capital One over Cotton...dont want to play a boring big 10 team. Cotton bowl production much better

Cap One will take whoever is rated higher b/w Aub, Mizz and USC that is available. I think we're pushing for Cotton b/c it keeps us out of Tampa.

... and, as of this morning, the Cotton is looking good from what I understand. There was a meeting that took place this morning by phone and now everyone over there is saying they believe it is going to be the Cotton Bowl. Nothing in concrete, but evidently, in addition to everyone being told to go-ahead and make plans to go home for Christmas, there are some things, material things, trickling-in and being changed that would indicate we might be headed to Dallas.
Word out of the AD's office is that nothing is going to be announced until Sunday morning, but there seems to certainly be things being put in motion that would suggest the deal has already been struck and the Cotton is ours. I've heard of no contingencies like who wins what in Atlanta this weekend or who is ranked higher than who in the BCS coming Sunday night so I take that as a solid sign that, unless something crazy happens at the last minute, our AD's office has pulled-off a fairly nice coup getting us the Cotton without hurting the Chick-fil-a's and Truitt Cathy's feelings. I think they must have really really wanted a SCAR-Spurrier/Duke match-up but are going to settle for someone else. It'll be interesting to see who ends-up in Atlanta from the SEC though.

1) I hope you're right. I want the Cotton over any bowl, regardless if it pays out more or who the potential opponents are.
2) With that said is there any word on who'd they take from the Big 12? I'd prefer Oklahoma or Texas, even though they're down compared to what they usually are they are still bigger names than Baylor / Ok. St. Obviously if Ok.St beats Oklahoma tomorrow they'll be in the Fiesta. Would another BCS bowl grab Baylor as an at large or would they fall to the Cotton?

Baylor presents a good story line: the new offensive genius vs the original. I'd like the play them. Wouldn't mind UTx, either.
Oklahoma really doesn't interest me in their current form. Program is sorta stagnant at the moment.

No doubt, but the history books will always look better beating a down Nebraska, Michigan, and Oklahoma, than it ever will beating a Baylor. Unless Baylor becomes a powerhouse program from here on out.

I'd love the opportunity to play against any of those Big12ish teams. Honestly though, I'd prefer for us to beat the piss out of texas the most though.
Fun Fact: We're 1-0 all time against the longhorns. (1957, SCRooster had just turned 30.... ) j/k

Could you imagine beating Alabama, Nebraska, Michigan, and Texas in consecutive years?

Absolutely not, Pelini and Hoke told us that they beat themselves.....

I wouldn't mind facing "Big Game" Bob in the Cotton.
Texas would be cool too

I asked the what if and who question but got no real answer. I guess it seems as if the Cotton is going to get a Big 12 entry ... but I specifically asked where the heck UCF will be sent since they are almost guaranteed a spot after Louisville beat Cincy last night ... but all I got in return was there will be no rematch between UCF and us, period. Which gave me pause ... because what if someone forces the Cotton to invite UCF?
Sunday is going to be interesting to say the least.

UCF has to get into a BCS bowl since they got the AAC's automatic bid.
No way UCF is in the Cotton

How I see it:
Iowa
Pro's
* Winnable
* Chance to get revenge for 2009 Outback bowl
Con's
* Boring game
* Third Florida trip in a row
* Third B1G opponent in a row and less prestigious than Nebraska and Michigan
Wisconsin
Pro's
* Wisconsin fans are fun to party with
* First meeting between two teams
* Winnable (but the toughest of the three)
Con's
* See Iowa notes though slightly less boring
Miami
Pro's
* Atlanta,
* First time playing them since '87 (15 meetings)
* Chance to beat them for the first time since '47.
* Winnable (easiest of the three I think)
* I like to beat up on the ACC
Con's
* Lowest bowl of all the projections.
The Cotton would be cool because we've never played there and don't often face Big 12 Opponents - we haven't played a team that's currently in the conference since WVU in 1995.
Out of all the projections I hope we get Miami in the Peach the most, I'm rooting against the Wisconsin option.
