Anybody else wondering when McGarrity makes his mark on the program

Ok. So, not a typical fire Richt thread, but related obviously. And definitely tl;dr
When McGarrity came aboard there was a good bit of talk about changes coming and setting the bar higher for the football program. There was alot of talk at the time about the temperature of Mark Richts seat around college football as a whole. Not just the internet fringe element
Well since then its been business as usual. I know ADs answer to trustees and boosters but these guys legacies at schools are directly tied to their hires and the success of the respective sport programs they preside over. I know Richt is a beloved figure in the state of Georgia but when is it time for change just for the sake of taking the program in a different direction?
This season is another bust. I would find it hard to hear an argument at this point that CMR is going to have a team in contention for a national title now during his career here. And my understanding is thats what you play for. Not 10 win seasons or all time career wins.
My guess is CTG takes another job this offseason. He doesnt have a particularly stationary track record career wise and im thinking he's not loving his CFB experience these days. So youll likely have that transition to deal with and the couple seasons of excuses that buys
We've squandered a handful of years that have seen the weakest i can remember the division being in a looong time. And the last two seasons before this one we played the softest schedules youre ever going to see here.
I dont really understand the argument that with change comes the chance that youll risk decline. "You might end up becoming Tennessee!" Well yeah. You might end up becoming Alabama too. Pulled out of mediocrity by a coach with a tireless competitive nature that uses all the resources at his disposal and has us in the top 3 recruiting every year. Dont tell me its not possible because it is
You dont have to hate Mark Richt or degrade what hes done here to want to see the program go in a different direction. Hes had a respectable run. But you cant deny that CFB is changing. Youre likely about to see an end to outright SEC dominance. Theres alot of great football minds around the country doing some impressive shite and playing an entertaining as hell brand of football that these high school kids love to play.
You know what youre going to get with Richt at this point. The guy has probably made north of 40-50 million since he moved to Athens all things considered. Thats alot of fricking money. Weve stood beside the guy through many seasons of embarrassing off field issues, undisciplined teams, coordinators taking all the wrath of the fans, seen other programs make huge strides in building relationships with in state HS coaches across the state etc. So how can anyone say we cant possibly do better with the right hire?

This is a great post. This should be the discussion, but the injuries are key.
Grantham is a bust. The 3-4 was installed during Meyer's tenure in order to compete with Florida. We don't even have a nose tackle. I'm in favor of returning to the 4-3.
Face it gentlemen, we haven't been elite since Van Gorder.
Anywho, kudos Chef.

So long as there's a nice paycheck and job security in it, it's very easy for all of the oversight in a program to adopt a "good enough is good enough" attitude.

Coming in from outside the program, McGarrity had to lick his chops when he took the job looking at all the resources and potential the fb program has. Like a sleeping giant. I refuse to believe he doesnt want to reign during UGAs first MNC in over 30 years. And theres no fricking way he believes the current staff will deliver that. Theres just no way. He actually works around them

He's a Gator. His plan is to take us down from the inside. Ever see Major League?

Not at UGA because UGA fans and Alumni are happy being mediocre.....Alabama fans ARE NOT...and that is the difference between the two programs....
We win 10 games a year because we don't play anyone in a 12 game regular season schedule. We play two rent-a-wins every year, GT, Vandy, and UK. That should mean 5 wins a year. Then every so often we get Mississippi State, Arkansas and Ole Miss, all teams that we should beat 80% of the time (and do). UT and Auburn, regulars on our schedule, have been down as bad as they ever have been the last couple of seasons. USC, Florida and LSU are all teams that aren't anywhere as good as they are touted to be every pre-season (we are in this same category) and now Missouri comes in and if we don't beat them at least 90% of the time over the next few years something is seriously wrong....we should never lose more than 8 games in a season with the weak assed schedule we play. a 7 wins season most likely means that we have lost to the likes of UK, Vandy. MSU, Ole Miss or GT.....so the 9 and 10 wins a season is not so impressive when taken in content...and then you have to consider that 1 of those 9 or 10 wins is usually against the 6th place Big 10 or ACC team and the luster loses something pretty fast....

I know you don't want to turn this post toward this topic but...who is the guy? Gruden is not a real possibility...Peterson isn't either...who is it? Kirby Smart? Why? Cause he is from Saban's school or cause he was a Dawg?...doesn't mean he can turn the program around...look at Muschamp at UF...he is very similar to Smart and they just lost to Mizzou as well..
I'm just saying, three weeks ago this board had tons of posts hailing CMR after the LSU win...now...not so much...I agree that CTG may be on the hot seat, but CMR WILL retire from UGA...whther we like it or not....

I think if Richt got rid of Grantham it would be a start. While I believe it is inevitable that Richt will one day be on the super hot seat, its not gonna be in the next few years, we all know this.
A step in the right direction, in the meantime, would be to make a home-run DC hire. Now that some other DC's have seen what we are willing to shell out(almost a million bucks) maybe this time we can make some panties moist to grab somebody great.
I honestly see Richt retiring from UGA in the next 5 years. I really do, but I see no way UGA fires him..he would have to have a season like AU had last year, and as you have stated, we get 8 free wins a year.
Not gonna happen

Unfortunately Richt to us is what Mack Brown is to Texas.
There's one glaring difference though.

Good logical post overall but above is where the logic breaks down and I know you know it. A good contrast is Bama and Auburn vs UGA. Clearly the admins at Bama and Auburn have winning football championships as a priority. The ultimate example was Auburn firing Chizik just 2 short years after he won a NC. The contrast: Winning championships in football is clearly NOT a priority for the administrators at the University of Georgia. We all know this to be true. They are much more focused on building academic prowess and decreasing the image of UGA as a party school.
As such, Mark Richt is the near ideal coach for Georgia. He presents a pristine image, runs a clean program and wins enough to keep the money rolling in. They could hardly ask for more.
Meanwhile, I agree that Grantham might well leave voluntarily and take another job in the NFL. He just doesn't seem like the type of personality who is willing to put up with the limitations of the college game long term. However, if he doesn't leave in the off season and his defense doesn't improve significantly next year, McGarity might have no choice but to direct Richt to let him go.
