Elite QB's just don't make 4 turnovers in the playoffs...2 per game...

I'm not COMPLETELY sold on Ryan as the answer to all of our woes...he's needs a really good back up to put some fire under his arse, so he can be more careful when throwing blindly into coverage, I just think sometimes he can be careless and knows there's no one threatening his job

I disagree with your connection between "elite" QBs and turnovers. Who would say that Tom Brady is not "elite"? Some would argue he's the best QB to ever play the game, yet he had 1 TD and 2 INTs yesterday. Manning threw 3 TDs and 2 INTs in his only playoff game this year.
I'm not defending Ryan as an "elite" QB. He may be and he may not be, but I don't think that stat alone determines who is and is not "elite". SF didn't even score on his TOs yesterday, so it's not like they cost ATL the game.

Roddy slipped on the int. The fumble was terrible. Ryan is a great option at QB.
With that said, I would love a better backup. Always just a play away.

This is the Richt Complex. Ryan is very good, but just cant quite get over that hump. He finally won a playoff game, and the Falcons still have a very good team for next year.

Which definitely contributed to the Patriots losing yesterday. Sure, even elite QB's have TO's but when they do it often contributes to losing big games. Winners find a way to win in the clutch. They don't turn the ball over during critical drives. In Murray's case the coaching staff simply didn't come up with a winning play on the last play of the game in the SECCG. In other words, we didn't finish the drill.....

How many QBs in this league would you call elite? I think there are very few. Bet you can count them on one hand. There is not a long list of better ones than MR. The defense did not play well enough yesterday. They play just a little bit better, Falcons win.

Meh, if he doesn't turn the ball over in those 2 instances, Bryant is in FG range and all of a sudden, we're up by 2 at the end of the game

This is the real question. In today's era, we want to make everyone special. Generally, I'd say Elite is top 5% IMO but with a small sample size, might have to expand to 10-15%. With only 32 teams, this means 3-4 guys are the "elite" class of QBs. Brady, Manning, Rodgers... who takes the 4th spot? Brees?
Doesn't mean there's a huge dropoff from those guys to the next but it gets obnoxious listening to all the QBs (read: Flacco and Eli, never heard Ryan voice his concern over this subject) who want to be considered elite.
Here's your participation certificate for being "Elite"...

Ryan is certainly top 10 no matter how you look at it. What the hell has Rivers, Cutler, Romo etc done in the playoffs?

Why is top 10 the "elite" mark? There are 32 NFL starting QBs... so top 1/3 is the mark to be elite? Look, I'm not arguing that the guy is terrible by any means. I like him and think that barring some amazing steal in the draft (largely devoid of proven QB talent this year) we aren't going to improve at the position over him. Time to start getting the supporting cast to fill the other holes on the team.
The argument that all these QBs are elite is just comical. Flacco, Romo, Rivers, Cutler, Ryan, E.Manning, M.Stafford... all better than average to good QBs. Not elite.

I'd go top 4 in the NFL.

See my post 3 up
I agree 4 is probably the mark, though who the 4th is seems to be very debatable. I don't think 1-3 are other than where they rank sequentially.

Just saying I think the guy is top 10. If someone is going to complain that the problem with the team is not having one of the elite 3-4 qb's then you're pretty f'd along with 28 other teams.
Look at all the 1st round QB's thats are busts. Clausen, Colt McCoy, Brady Quinn, Vince Young, Alex Smith etc etc etc.
I just have a hard time complaining about Ryan as a QB.

It took you this long to come up this observation?I've never been sold on "Mattie Ice". The guy throws like an 8 year old girl. You have to put his picture on a milk carton in the 2nd half because he's nowhere to be found. The guy is a loser and will never get Atlanta over the hump. Atlanta needs to draft a pass rusher in the 1st round.... oh wait...

some of you guys are just retarded. Matt Ryan is elite. 2 of the ints are timing plays where, 1 Tony G slowed up, 2 Roddy W slipped. Yeah these are not his fault. The fumble, yeah that is terrible, but thats the only time i've seen him do that.
And when you have R White, J Jones and TG to throw the ball to, I dont mind if he just 'throws it up' bc they usually catch it.
Our D is far from elite. Matty Ice can't help us there. The 2 penalties that happened on 3rd down that extended SF's drive, thats what cost us the game. Not Matt Ryan

Accurate.

False. Better than average but clearly not elite. He had happy feet for nearly all of the second half. Underthrows multiple times on 3rd down. He was a 1st half monster these last 2 games but disappeared when we had the opportunity to put the game out of reach. This is not elite but it doesn't mean he can't grow.

Team effort. Zero points in the second half was a killer. Can't rely on getting the ball last always. The not so elite defense bailed him out on both of his turnovers, even if they couldn't cover Vernon Davis all game.

Four turnovers is amateur hour, dude. Elite quarterbacks commit at least six.
