I guess no one even read the quote. He's talking about the loser not getting a Sugar Bowl bid over Florida and having to go to the Capital One.
Ha ha, no shite. that's why he's not a hypocrite. same ol, same ol saban.

I saw it as a plea for more than two BCS bids for a conference, but people are going to take from it what they want.
It is utterly ridiculous that teams should be punished for playing in the SECCG. The only way to avoid that punishment is to do away with the limits. Luckily, the BCS won't last much longer.

Not sure if the full question and response has been posted.
Q. Big picture question for you. Much
has been made of the double-edged sword of
these conference championship games. The
loser of this game would most likely not go to a
BCS game, where Florida would. What do you
think of how that plays out?
COACH SABAN: For either one of these
teams it's not really a great scenario. You play
your way into the championship game, which
means you're the best team in your division,
they're the best team in their division. They played
their way into the game by a total body of work for
the whole season.
It doesn't seem quite right. But it is what it
is. I don't really know what me commenting about
it is going to do to change it. But I don't feel good
about it for our football team or their football team,
either one.
But it is what it is.

Wow, Saban is actually preparing for the eventuality of Alabama losing to Georgia in the SECCG.
I never thought I'd see the loser mentality in Saban of all people. I am disappoint.

Exactly what is wrong with this? If UF had 2-3 losses I would understand. With only 1 loss and the toughest SOS in the country, I think UF deserves to go over a team with 2 losses. Sorry.
The argument could go both ways if it is Alabama, but I would be furious if I was a Georgia fan in that scenario. Play for a BCS title or play a shite Big Ten team in Orlando.

It's been this way forever and now it's a big deal? ONly because it could affect Bama my dear.

Oh well. UGA also has a weak SOS.

Ummmmmmm, it has always been like this. Play a more difficult schedule. That is how you avoid it.

If there are football gods, Georgia will beat Bama in the SECCG, and Bama will fall out of the BSC bowls.

BS, they are in the 50th percentile.

I didn't see anything about divisional champions getting a preference for the BCS bids.
There isn't. Which is why I think they are sort of pointless.
There is less about conference/division championships in the BCSCG than there is in the BCS bowl berth language. Assuming Alabama wins the SECCG, I think an argument could be made that Georgia, being the division champion, has more of a right to the BCS game championship berth rule than Florida. But you are right... there is absolutely nothing about that, and they named only SEC champions.

I've always thought it. Thought it last year too. I have said all along that if we go to a playoff, we should eliminate the SECCG. My dear.

What I am saying is, say UGA had a top 5 SOS, then lost to Bama in the SECCG. The odds of them falling would be considerably lower. They still may play for the Sugar Bowl. Because in the computers eyes, they are a stronger team.

A more difficult schedule isn't going to improve on an 11-1 record and #2 ranking.

Pointless if you don't want to name a SEC champion.
I see your point but don't agree with Saban.

Why can't you have co-champions? In 2008 and 2009 both, had Alabama and Florida not played in the SECCG, they would have likely played for the BCS Championship. As it was, one team dropped out... though in both cases, each got to go to a BCS bowl.

The difference: If UGA loses and UF gets the Sugar, UF would be in a BETTER bowl than the division winner of their division. Last year, bama got an EQUAL bowl (in fact, the SAME bowl) as the division winner of bama's division.
P.S. I don't agree with Saban. SECCG Winner should get the BCSCG, UF should get the Sugar, and the loser should get one of the crappy bowls.
UF has earned it against a significantly tougher schedule than either bama or UGA.
Until the massive chasms in schedule difficulty from team to team in the conference are shrunk, this will become a common theme.
