How? They have recruited very well and hardly missed a beat when they lost Lattimore for the year. USC doesn't have the money like most schools do and he is still taking them to new heights. I absolutely hate Spurrier for constantly beating UT, but give credit where credit is due.

k i will give reasons 4 my rankings

1. Nick Saban - obvious #1

2. Bobby Petrino - record vs spurrier and miles. done more with less

3. Steve Spurrier - his record and press conference skills speak for themselves.

4. Mark Richt - i couldve went with miles here but i honestly believe richt is the better coach.

5. Les Miles - too much drama. bar fight before the season. the blowup before, during and after this yrs MNC.

6. James Franklin - been a miracle man thus far at vandy. overachieved. done more with less

7. Gene Chizik - see malzahn leaving

8. Will Muschamp - has not lived up to expectations thus far.

9. Dan Mullen - done well for where he's at. but under performed this past yr.

10. Joker Phillips - believe he's a better coach than given credit. being at kentucky hurts him.

11. Derek Dooley - lost to the guy above him.

12. Kevin Sumlin - gonna get arse raped in first yr playing big boy football.

13. Hugh Freeze - big step up from the sunbelt. definite upgrade for the rebs. time will tell how much of an upgrade.

14. Gary Pinkel - gonna get arse raped in first yr playing big boy football.

I never said he wasn't an awesome offensive coach, I was just stating that he isn't the 2nd best HC in the best conference in the nation.

This argument doesn't work, considering we were pretty good right up until he became HC. We also have more talent (at least * wise) and are deeper than we ever have.

We can agree to disagree I say he is a 'Big 12 coach' who will never get over the hump in a defense dominated league

Spurrier and Petrino lost to Kentucky too so why does Dooley get put behind Phillips because he lost to UK?

Because we had a WR under center who knew less than 100 plays.

Plus, Petrino and Spurrier lost to decent teams. Dooley did not.

You scored 10 points against us. How is that on the defense? The wildcat got us the very first drive and the offense got shut down after that.

UT lost because of offense, there is no excuse to lose to UK when they only score 10 points. Thats what happens your two main players, Rogers and Bray, dont want to play at a crappy bowl.

Dooley has only lost to one team that UT was favored in and that was UK.....

And that's not on Dooley how?

He's the head coach. It may not be fair, but that's how it works. He is ultimately responsible for everything related to UT football.

It is Dooley's fault. There is no excuse for that lost but games like that happen. He should have taken out Bray and Rogers and put someone in there who wanted to play. The problem is that we don't have anyone to put in because of Kiffin and Fulmer.

Every coach has a bad loss, Saban lost to ULM.

to fairly rank the coaches, you have to evaluate their situation fairly. i.e. some schools winning traditions make it easier to win than schools w/o sustained success. also their is a big difference in recruiting base and instate competition for resources. Saban's job is harder at Alabama that Miles at LSU. LA is loaded w/ talent and no competition from instate school. Freeze & Mullen have an impossible task in a small state w/ 3 D1A schools.

with that, here's my $0.02.

1. Saban - overachieving w/ superior resources
2. Spurrier - overachieving
3. Petrino - overachieving
4. Franklin - overachieving
5. Mullen - overachieving w/ resources
6. Miles - on par w/ resources
7. Chizik - 2012 will tell his worth
8. Muschamp - underachieving, but young coach
9. Richt - underachieving
10. Joker - underachieving
11. Dooley - underachieving big time. won't survive 2012.
NR. Pinkel - not informed enough to evaluate.
NR. Sumlin - can't fairly evaluate someone who hasn't coached a game in the SEC.
NR. Freeze - see above.

Dooley has not underachieved. Everyone projected our teams to be 6-6 the past two years. UT was considered a 6-6 teams with Lathers, Janzen Jackson, Bray, and Hunter. Considering we lost all those players, its not surprising at all how the season turned out. It was a shocker to lose to UK, but most of the outcomes weren't shocking at all.

UT will now get to see if Dooley can get the job done since we won't have to put out a jv team on the field anymore.

Full on retard here. CBP does do more with less. That's his fault. He's either a bad recruiter or admit Arkansas isn't capable of recruiting on the level of Bama, LSU, Auburn, A&M, UGA, UF, Tenn & USCe.

Recruiting is a major part of being a HBC in CFB. Petrino is high in the gameday coach thread but falls short in this thread because of recruiting. I ranked CBP top half but no here near Saban, Miles or Spurrier

You've really been showing your arse a lot. Petrino's first class at Arkansas was ranked 6th. That class is about to have 3 WRs drafted. In one class. How common is that?

In 2012 Arkansas has the #1 WR, #1 TE, #3 RB and #3 QB eligible for the draft. But according to you Petrino can't recruit.
