Har har har.
The same shite was being said by people when the SEZ was built and 10K seats were added.
Yes, building it does put butts in the seats. We learned that a little less than ten years ago.

I don't know why opposing fans would be against it or ridiculing it. It just means more available seats for them and at a cheaper price.

The way they were talking this was going to be more of a marketing thing. I knew about the basketball arena, which they desperately needed. They made it sound like it was going to be more like states "this is our state" campaign, which would just cause a huge statewide pissing match. I may have misunderstood them though, and just wondered if any OM fans have heard anything about this?

Truth.
Also, it would make the stadium look much nicer. The NEZ bleachers realy are an eyesore.

No ridiculing here. I enjoy going to Oxford

There will probably be a new marketing campaign, but it won't be similar to State's nor as widespread I don't think.
Most of this money will go to rebuilding the NEZ (they say they want it to be a "front door" to the stadium as opposed to what it is... some fricking bleachers) and creating a new basketball arena to go where the tennis courts and parking lots are behind the Turner Center (the student gym across the street from the stadium, for those not in the know).

A new basketball arena was a package deal with a new rec center?

I think they are doing what they are having to do. I don't look at it as a pissing match, althought the empty seats thing is a good argument. If they were going to one-up us they would have went for 200 mil. Both schools are going to have to get in by the State College Board. So they will both have to present good evidence for the need to expand. Does State have more evidence, sure. But I doubt the Board will allow one to do something without the other doing it too. And aren't building costs down right now?

Yep.
I was listening to some dude on the radio yesterday talking about the plans (he's some official in UMAA or some shite) and he was saying they were gonna scrap those bleachers, wrap the stadium around to truly bowl it in, and then create a really nice entrance to the stadium there. Said it doesn't make sense to have such a grand entrance on the SEZ because most fans come to the game in the NEZ.
I like the way the SEZ looks, especially since you can see it from all the way across campus, but I see his point.

I think that when the stadium sat 42k we averaged high 30s. When we expanded it a little over 50k we averaged high 40s. When we expanded it to a little over 60k we averaged high 50s. So to a degree, the "if you build it, they will come" thing has been true for us in the past.

We filled them up in 2008 and 2009. It's tough to fill up a stadium for a season like we had last year but we're not exactly planning to go 4-8 ever season.....

In all seriousness, this is a great thing for Ole Miss. You leave the Grove and walk up to the bleacher entrance which is beyond terrible. Why has it taken this long to realize this?

* Obligatory bears joke*
Good for Ole Miss. I hope their fans start being a little less fair weather. Start winning some games, lose a few parties, something alone those lines.

I'm anxious to see the renderings for both the arena and football stadium.

Are they revealing them today?

I doubt it. But I wouldn't be surprised if the basketball arena was announced in the next few weeks.
