They weren't defending Cam. They were urging people to take an "innocent until proven guilty" approach.
Two MSU coaches alleged that Cam Newton's father was shopping his son around. They will most likely make sworn statements saying the same thing. You do realize that if these MSU coaches are lying they will go to jail for perjury now. Perjury is a felony and could land them in prison for a very long time.
I highly doubt that they would make this up just to get back at Auburn.

Found another article for your timeline...

Newton told the council the building can be brought to code "inside of six months." He also said the church has the money in hand to proceed with the work.

Cecil Newton fails to show up for council meeting and give a compelling explanation as to why there has been no progress on improvements since the initial extension was filed 8 months prior in September 2009.
-----The Newnan City Council said Tuesday it is finished granting extensions for a local church to bring its building up to code unless the owner can offer an acceptable, compelling reason why not to proceed with demolition.
"I am done dealing with 115 Temple Ave.," said Mayor Keith Brady.-----

Newnan City Council has decided to allow the Holy Zion Center of Deliverance, 115 Temple Ave., to remain in existence at its present location if certain conditions are met.

HAHAHAHA.......
So they were under oath, in a court of law, when talking to Joe Schad.
That's good.
One of the funniest things I've heard all day.

quote:thats essentially the same thing, saying not to persecute him based on the "unnamed sources" info which is being put out at this time. they have also been defending him regarding the whole academic issue stating that this should be a non-issue regarding his status at auburn, and that as a younger person he screwed up and people should get over it.

nobody, not even most auburn fans, would defend him should it actually be proven that he is guilty of being paid.

I didn't say that you ignorant hick. I said that with the FBI now involved they will most likely have now signed sworn statements saying what they told Joe Schad. That is usually what happens when a case becomes federalized.

How do you trace all funds at a church???? People put cash in collection plates. An aubie booster could of put 10k in cash and we`d never get caught. Yeah 10k would be obvious, but he could of put in a grand a week.
That only works if you have a congregation and a functioning church... 2 things that Bishop Cecil apparently hasn't had in a couple of years accoring to that AJC article somebody linked earlier..

I would defend him on the academic claims as well. That has absolutely NOTHING to do with what is going on at Mississippi State.

But many pastors and churchgoers say that the new rules simply reflect the changing reality of religious giving.
The sight of cash and loose change heaped on collection plates Sunday mornings is becoming a thing of the past, said the Rev. Larry Peters, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Tenn. Instead, Peters said, most of the 300 families who attend his church on Sundays give checks
If Rev Newton suddenly claimed large cash donations came hos way, after a long dry spell, where the church fell into disrepair. And these cash windfalls conicidently began arriving as Cam was being recruited.
Thats all the NCAA would need. Its not a court of law.

Do you really think the FBI is investigating to see if Auburn paid Cam Newton? The FBI doesn't ,just after a week, decide to investigate a NCAA pay for play allegation. This is part of an ongoing FBI investigation involving agents. It is pretty obvious that the FBI wants to talk to Bond about an agent which in this case is Rogers. Regardless of if you believe Auburn paid Newton or not at least give us enough credit that we wouldn't arrange a payment through Rogers when there are plenty of other options seeing as Auburn is in Georgia. The FBI may want to talk to the Newtons but they aren't going to be asking about anything other than their involvement with Rogers. The Newtons obviously didn't get any money from Rogers so I'm not sure why they would care about their financial records.
