Not alarming because it's going to give their program a boost, alarming because of where this stuff is heading in general and the propensity of people to play follow the leader.

Is this something we would consider doing given the talk about needing to upgrade our NIL game? It makes sense although it might be the final, ultimate step away from this being college sports. Which again is alarming and makes my innards hurt, but I've consistently said, do you deal with things as you'd like them to be or things as they are?

On the one hand it doesn't seem like a big deal but on another it seems like a huge deal. I wonder what implications that has for Title IX?

Yeah it’s hard to tell how significant this is. Was hoping to see what folks thought but I guess they want to ignore and downvote. I guess they think I like this. I don’t, it scares the piss out of me.

I'd rather Alabama football not exist at all, if I'm being perfectly honest.

I hear you. Worst case scenario with something like this again is it totally pushes the thing irrevocably over the line from having any connection to college sports.

There have been many leave already, every incremental step will force more away. It will take time to show up but it will eventually, and it will fall apart from its own weight.

The NFL needs a place to develop players for their league. Long term that's in jeopardy the more college sports is driven by money and the more detached it is from the school. It's pretty bad as is, but it's only getting worse. A lot of these kids don't even step on campus except for football - they're taking everything online.

I don't mind spending money on Alabama football in exchange for watching a game. I am not going to spend money on Alabama football so a player that's making more than I am (or ever will in a year) can have more money in their pocket. If enough people like me think that way and funds dry up and Alabama football goes into the dustbin of history, so bed it. I am not going to directly fund 18-22 year old millionaires.

Seems like the way things going that athletic teams will soon be university owned, for profit, minor league teams. Being an LLC and players soon being considered employees of the university, I'd imagine they could de-couple the requirement to be enrolled in the school. They would just be athletes that the university hires to play on their teams, like they would hire any other roles at the school.

I could be reading this wrong, but it really does seem that this is the direction things are headed.

Private equity will be the final nail in the coffin to college athletics.

This may sound like fear mongering but I think there are people in Riyadh and Dubai who would be all over this s**t.
