Auburn is what I would call a blue collar program that is hindered by terrible coaching hires.

I mostly agree, they have had some true stinkers. They've also had:

Shug Jordan
Pat Dye
Terry Bowden
Tuberville
Malzahn
Freeze

...all of which would be considered at least decent/pretty good hires/coaches, yet they only managed a half of a national title between all of them.
