ESPN: Nico still looking for more than $4 million

Multiple sources have told ESPN that Iamaleava's camp is seeking much more through the portal than the $4 million they hoped to earn with the Vols this year. The read after talking to sources, however, is that he's unlikely to find a situation that gets him to that number.
"I think he has zero market," said a general manager at a Power 4 school. "It will be an interesting test of how smart and disciplined colleges are in looking at him."
Sources caution that Iamaleava is talented enough that some market will form. He led the SEC's ninth-best scoring offense in conference play and finished ninth in QBR (70.5) last season. There will be a place for a solid SEC starter with a five-star pedigree somewhere in the sport. But can he find a contender willing to invest millions and guarantee him a starting job?

Story by Pete Thamel and Max Olson was posted 3 hours ago. Another tidbit:
Iamaleava's future is in the hands of his father, Nic, and a trusted family friend named Cordell Landers, a former Florida personnel staffer. Both are representing the quarterback in discussions with schools.
Methinks the two stooges are about to encounter disappointment.

Good luck with that.

We are all kidding ourselves, there will sooner or later by a jacktard that pays him.

Well, they're not either of those things

What I have been saying about some school somewhere thinking he can help them and signing him and we should cut them some slack? That is no longer operative. In fact, @#$& that. This kid, or maybe it is the two doofuses marketing him, is metaphorically slitting his own throat a little deeper with every passing moment. Nobody is going to want these headaches.

He's just not that good. He isn't anything close to Burrow, Tebow, Menziel, Cam Newton. He's serviceable and maybe has some potential, but he's not worth $4 million. Trust me, Tennessee would have paid him if he was a game changer.
For that kind of money, he needs to light up Ohio State, not Kent State.
(He did light up Kent State 71-0 last year)

Them baws is greedy.

He is an erratic passer who runs well.

He needs an actual agent, not these two clowns. At this point he should be more worried about getting to a respectable program and preserving an NFL trajectory. His pre-draft process is going to be brutal.

I keep saying his posse has gotten way ahead of their skis. I mean, Nico is not without skills or tools but I don’t see him as a generational talent and they are acting like he’s God’s only begotten quarterback.

In the lower half of the conference and wanting superstar money? Good luck, kid.

The schools being thrown out as potential suitors don't make sense. Tulane ponied up a shite ton of money for their guy during the winter portal. UNC just signed a big recruit over LSU in Baker and also has a 45-year old in Max Johnson. Nico's brother, Madden, flipped from UCLA on signing day in December and took his HS WR with him to ARK.
Of course all of this is after Nico's dad had Madden transfer high schools so the kid lost eligibility for his senior year.
Nico's dad is burning bridges left and right and quite clearly does not give a damn about his children. Pretty sickening to watch.

His dad has to be the biggest egomaniac, if not megalomaniac, ever born of a woman.

The more that comes out about this (who knows what's true or false), I'm starting to feel sorry for Nico, the individual. Being a pawn in Daddy's Shitty Chess Game and having your reputation and potentially career ruined must really suck.

I think the biggest problem he has is the timing of everything, Spring practice is already over and most schools, especially bigger problems are locked in on their roster, they don’t need someone like this throwing a stick of dynamite into it.

I’ve been trying to find out some background on the father. I found this quote from a 2021 LA Times story:
Iamaleava grew up in a Samoan household with strict, no-nonsense values imposed by his father, Nicholaus Sr., an assistant coach for Warren. Samoan blood, they say, carries strength. “We’re warriors,” Iamaleava’s father said. “That’s where [the toughness] is from. And it shows.”
It said the dad came from a heritage of Samoan rugby players.
And all through the story Nico keeps going on and on about Samoan culture, how he wants to represent it because there are few Samoans in skill positions other than Tua, they are mostly linemen.
People were laughing and downvoting the story the other day about Daddy dominating the family dynamic because that’s how it is in Samoan culture, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to deny that some of that is going on here. The evidence is too strong.
