Is A&M actually crazy enough to pursue Beard?

The national media already naming Beard or the Illinois coach, Underwood as targets.
The national media is more optimistic than I am in a national coaching search. I figured we get an up and comer, now, who knows.

They'd be crazy not to.. the guy is a great coach.

Much like Lane, Beard is the de-facto candidate for any nationally relevant job.

A&M should just pluck McCasland from Tech

This is why A&M might not pursue.

Im just caught off guard the national media is basically saying, “you guys need to go after Beard”. I didn’t even think that would be an option.

It won't be Underwood. He has like a 10-12 million contract buyout.

This makes the most sense. As much as I love Cal leaving Kentucky for Arkansas, I generally don't like to see coaches leave for jobs in conference.

If he wants to coach in Texas..
Texas A&M - maybe?
Texas Tech - nope
There is probably only one path for Beard to get back to Austin, and that option runs through College Station.

I'm all for it. You guys might even get your first Elite 8 out of it before he comes back home..

You should, he is a hell of a coach and the situation is long enough behind him that people have moved on.
What do Aggies have to lose here by hiring him?

It's this. Nothing will change Kevin Eltife's mind on Beard faster than watching him succeed in College Station.

It’s not crazy to think Beard could come to CS if we throw him enough money but our current AD is a cheap arse so I’m not sure if he’s willing to open the bank for him. I would love to have the Tech coach but I don’t see that happening. I think we have a better chance with Beard. If we want to go to the mid major market the UC Irvine coach could be a possibility. He’s won a lot of games there and has been to the tournament a couple of times with a win in the tournament under his belt but he’s been to the NIT a lot.

Your AD will run this hire like it’s a business. You’re getting a lower level coach, cheaper. Gut doesn’t care about winning. Hence the Earley hire.

Trev Alberts was brought to aggy to be an ax man, period. That Jimbo contract is still killing the aggy budget. Beard currently makes 5 million per year and an almost 20 million buyout. Good Luck aggy.

Never gonna happen, His wife graduated from Tech, and he has his Masters from there. The only job he would go to would be Baylor and thats not happening because Scott Drew is a top 10 coach.

I did not know that. Yeah, undefeated remains undefeated.

Would be an all time troll but it won’t happen. Texas is too proud and has too many liberals who won’t tolerate any baggage. Sad story because I think beard and Texas was a match made in heaven

We just don’t know anything about how Alberts operates. The Baseball situation was an outlier because of all the players hitting the portal.
Basketball coaching search doesn’t have the same restrictions.
Beard has to be the first phone call
Illinois coach sounds like an interesting option
Tech coach is a third option

What was Alberts relationship with Hoiberg like? Could he pull him out of his hometown?
