I stated this Saturday in the tournament thread and I mean it even more this morning. The inability of mid majors to retain their players will almost be the death of upsets in general. This is one of the chalkiest tournaments in recent memory with everything being somewhat bland and predictable. The rich have gotten richer and widened the gap even further. This tournament might not ever be the same and that’s a shame.

What's your main argument? Do you want a system that keeps individuals at small schools and limit their opportunities?

We are the Cinderella this year. It’s only our second time making it to the Sweet 16 and we did it with a second year coach with a bunch of transfers.

It leads to better games at the end of the tourney, but absolutely kills the first weekend. And for most casual fans that’s the most exciting part of the tourney. This year the first round had very little drama.

Not only were there barely any upsets, the # of blowouts int his year's tournament was the highest I can remember. Barely any games came down to the final minute which is very odd.

I get that. You don’t want terrible matchups in the sweet 16 and elite 8. The cream always rises to the top in this tourney in the end that is true. But I like it better when a few mid majors win and even compete in the 1st and 2nd round. This has been the most boring ncaa tourney of all time so far

NIL cannot be the scapegoat to all ills of society, Stewart Mandel. There are 7 SEC teams in the Sweet 16. There are plenty of Cinderella's.

I may be in the minority but I think the result of NIL is also fun. It’s fun to have 16 really good teams in the sweet 16 with teams full of really good players. Too many times we get a Cinderella that gets hot because 1 or 2 guys can’t miss from 3 but then they get exposed when they regress to the mean and we get an awful sweet 16 or elite 8 game.

Kind of hard to be Cinderella when you've won just one game you weren't supposed to (and that one was a mild upset). I think maybe if you beat Mich State there is a conversation to be had for that

Arkansas is a 10 seed in the sweet 16.

NC State was an 11 and made the final 4 last year

No 1 seeds made the elite 8 and 9 seed FAU made the final 4 in 2023.

Looks like Cinderella still has a glass slipper in the collection

A true underdog story of a team with limited resources and under-recruited student athletes.

Arkansas wasn’t even supposed to be in the tournament and fought our way in. Ole Miss has a hot team and can beat anyone. I hope both teams keep winning.

An Arkansas / Ole Miss final 4 game in San Antonio would be awesome.

Thanks for the clarification. We were all curious how serious you were about this on Saturday morning.

We weren’t favored in either game.

The more accurate statement is NIL has killed the entertainment value of college sports and turned it into pro sports-lite.

Now it's about what players you buy more than the coach or the system you run. It's boring, milquetoast sports where the talent is stacked so high on one side that little to no innovation is needed. Every team is basically Georgia football. Methodical, plodding, and almost inevitable.

2019 LSU football was the last great show in college sports.
