KenPom only goes back to 2002 on their webpage, but here are the Top teams in College Basketball since 2002:

36.91- 2025 Auburn
36.91- 2015 Kentucky
36.64- 2025 Duke
36.48- 2021 Gonzaga
36.43- 2024 UConn
35.21- 2008 Kansas
34.22- 2019 Virginia
34.19- 2002 Duke
33.87- 2021 Baylor
33.76- 2018 Villanova
33.72- 2015 Wisconsin
33.47- 2011 Ohio State
33.29- 2010 Duke
32.92- 2013 Louisville*
32.77- 2005 North Carolina
32.59- 2012 Kentucky
32.48- 2015 Duke
32.36- 2015 Arizona
32.33- 2004 Duke
32.05- 2017 Gonzaga
32.01- 2016 Villanova

Those are all 21 teams to rate +32 points or higher in KenPom. Of the 19 prior to this season:

*17 were 1 seeds; two were 2-seeds
*11 won the National Title
*14 went to the title game or further
*16 went to the Final 4 or further
*18 went to the Elite 8 or further
*All 19 went to the Sweet 16 or further
*These teams combined to be 96-4 in the NCAA Tournament to teams NOT on this elite list
*Out of the 4 losses to teams not on this list, 2 were to the eventual national champ; three were against teams that made it to the Title Game, and all 4 were against teams that made it to the Final 4.

This Auburn team is currently playing at an insane level.

Clearly the best team in the country at this point. Duke may be a close 2nd in terms of numbers and beaten Auburn at home, but I don't think I'd take them to win 4 straight vs good teams away from home like I would Auburn right now.

I have it on good authority from someone that played church league and posts here that AU is in real trouble. These numbers mean nothing.

I get your point, but the wording of this is funny

Do we know which denomination the church basketball team is?

If it's a Baptist Church I might be concerned, if it's a Methodist Church I'm not

No troll - genuinely curious.

If Auburn is healthy for the tournament, what is the minimum without it being considered a disappointment?

Elite 8?
Final 4?
Trophy or bust?

Anything less than final 4 would be a huge bummer if we are healthy and playing to the same level at the end of the regular season

For me, making the elite 8 but not the final 4 would not be a disappointment. It takes a lot of luck to get the final 4.

I think the deepest you can "expect" to go is the Elite 8. The best team in the country each year (especially if it's clearly the best) will be a healthy favorite in games vs #16, #8/9 and #4/5+. Once you get to the Elite 8 you are playing another very, very good team more than likely and if you play a B- game and they play an A+ you can lose.

Doesn't take away from the disappointment, but it is the reality.

I think we're getting hyped up a bit too much. I mean we have been hyped up most of the year. I don't like it. I hope this isn't our peak part of the season... We need that peak to happen in a couple of months.

And that 2015 Kentucky team didn't make it to the final Beat out by Wisconsin in the FinalFour. Duke went on to win it. Family and I were at a hotel in North Myrtle watching the Duke/Wisconsin game eating pizza that year. Fun.

That tournament can go all kinds of ways.. you never know...

All of this makes me extremely nervous. We as AU fans know we can’t have nice things. There is such a thing as “Auburning”.

I have to agree with this.

I will admit that I never in a million years thought I would consider anything short of a Final Four for Auburn to be extremely disappointing.

I am very much enjoying these expectations....

WTF. I’m Methodist and I’ll drop bombs on any Baptist team.
