A few questions:
1. How do yall even have that many spots available?
2. What does this mean for high school recruiting? Yall even give 2 shites about high school recruiting any more?
3. How many of these transfers are legit going to see playing time or are a bunch of these dudes transferring just to transfer again? (Aka walker howard)

With the smallest amount of research, you’d notice we have 6 portal commits.

Newsflash - HS recruiting doesn't mean shite anymore. Lane, to his credit, has apparently realized this before other people.
Say what you want about program continuity, etc., but if a kid isn't getting significant PT after two seasons, they are leaving anyway. If you can get grown men in, have an extended spring and offseason with them, that's the way to construct the team now.
The only way to save HS recruiting to some degree would be to push the portal to a spring-only window. It's importance has clearly declined and will continue to do so.

Colorado and Ole Miss don’t even care about HS recruiting anymore, and I don’t blame them. It’s paying off for them.
Personally, I appreciate the old school approach of supplementing depth or starters with transfers, but the meat of your program is home grown.
I mean time will tell how successful of a strategy it is based on whether Ole Miss or Colorado can make the playoffs. I wouldn’t want Kiffin to change his strategy.

This would be true if we didn't sign the best HS class since Lane's been here......but we did. So that means it isn't true.

"If ifs and buts" aside......we would have been in the playoffs in 2023 had it been a thing.

Just completely ignoring A&M with 28 commits.......

What does our class have to do with yours? We rely on recruiting vs transfers. I don’t understand your “ah ha” moment pointing us out randomly.

You may want to mention that you’re referring to last year’s transfer numbers.

Yeah I figured as much.
Go make a cup of coffee and then give this thread another read.

OP can't even figure out that we were 2nd in the conference in portal commits in that link. You can't assume he can figure out which year that was from.

We had a coaching change. Maybe follow football instead of trying to apply things that don’t go together. You do understand the portal opens for schools that undergo coaching changes? Nah, you don’t.

And you still had 28 portal commits.
Coffee still not brewed yet? Maybe.....just maybe....realize that I didn't bring up A&M as a way of talking shite about A&M.
Calm down, sport. You have 4 already this year without a head coaching change. LSU has 5 without a head coaching change. It's just currently the nature of the sport.

OM loses something like 28 guys this year as xfers who are out of eligibility. They have ZERO TFR in the two deep from this season coming up to replace them and something like 2-3 SO's. They have to have the #1 portal class going away, or they might as well forfeit next season.

I agree with you Banner
Give me a kid that's had two years in a college strength and conditioning program and understands the expectations of a D1 coaching staff. He's already lived away from mom and dad for an extended period so getting home sick shouldn't an issue. I also feel like it gives him an injection of energy and a confidence boost. That's human nature when it comes to a new beginning. The player carries a chip on their shoulder from the previous staff for not giving them enough PT and provides a little extra drive as well.

Yeah, but they lost 24 so it's basically a wash...

I see you’re parroting Stare fans favorite lines here.

Quit thinking like its 2009. We have QB and D line and LB in a pretty good spot. Already got 2 OL and a TE. We will have our pick of the WR in the portal. RB and DB are the question but we will be competitive next year. We have 2 of the 3 most important positions in a good spot, QB/DL/OL.

That signing class last year was the reason we beat GA. Our top DT, DE, LB, CB,S, RB...most our starting OL, TE.
We went heavy on WR, RB, secondary and OL to fill some holes too...which is where most of the depth guys were. I'd say we hit on most of them.
Overall there's prob 5 that didnt play significant snaps and contribute. 2 of them are back in the portal this year
