I know Sonner fans have had it rough this year and this was not the news they needed to hear. We should all take a moment and say a prayer for the Venables family.

Brent Venables says his wife's cancer has returned.

>

quote:

NORMAN — OU football coach Brent Venables' wife, Julie, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer of 2023, had surgery to remove a tumor last week, Venables announced during his weekly coaches show on Monday night.

Venables said Julie's cancer returned in May and she's been traveling back and forth between Norman and New York the past several months. He added she's doing "amazing" as of now.

Julie told The Oklahoman in March she had "zero cancer" and felt great.

"Her spirit and her strength is nothing short of amazing," Venables said. "We've got a great team and great faith. It's in God's hands, a big part of the battle was her wanting to just fight and keep swinging and that's what she's doing."

Julie received the initial diagnosis in June 2023 underwent surgery in August and November.

The Sooners held a Breast Cancer Awareness game last season when they hosted UCF with two pink ribbons painted in each end zone.

Brent and Julie Venables have been married since 1997. They have four children.

His job is likely a major factor in what is affording her the best care available. But, yes, it's likely a moment to step back and spend time with her, which could also explain some things for Ou this year.

Prayers in all cases. frick cancer

I'm going to forgo my usual schtick when it comes to anything OU and say thoughts and prayers to Brent and his family.

This has zero to do with football and I wish them success in beating the toughest opponent anyone has ever faced.

Dealing with cancer myself... I've kind of reached the point that I don't ever believe it goes away anymore. I've had a couple of "it's gone" moments, but it's been back within a year at the most each time.

I've just comforted myself with being happy when i get a break from chemo for a bit.

Sorry man. Han gin there. Hopefully this Georgia run has made the chemo more bearable.

You continue to do your thing on OU. Trash talk is what makes it all fun. But yeah, no matter the dislikes for various programs between fans, anytime something personal is going on, especially someone’s health, we all unite and tell stuff like cancer to F off!!!

Ah, so now Oklahoma can get rid of him because he’s not winning and try to hire someone else.
