So schools can straight-up buy players now? Not even attempting to masquerade as NIL?

They'll hang his picture in the campus bookstore and call it paying for his image to advertise.

Why should we all care? Personally I don't want $200 face value tickets to a freaking college game.

I thought players should get a cut of the pie...set aside in a trust account for when they leave school. What's going on now is just insanity. The NFL at least has structure and guidelines.

Pro football necessitates TV revenue > fan/alums. So long as that’s flowing, the machine will keep rolling and growing.

I can kind of understand the rationale of giving a Cam Ward $3-4M for one season. I can’t wrap my mind around the risk involved with giving this kind of deal to a high school prospect.

The insane amount of risk is the number one reason the NFL stopped letting rookies negotiate contracts before they ever played a down. CFB is going to need to come up w/a way to do the same b/c if all the numbers being thrown around are true I just don't see how it can possibly be sustainable.

The big SEC and B1G schools are probably in the 15M per year range of salary. A few may be a little higher.

Let him go. Im over this shite. Only way perineal overhyped programs like Texas and Michigan can win. Im proud of our success in the past. College football is garbage now.

Exactly. I still enjoy college fb but seem to care a little less every year thanks to NIL. A lot of fans are perfectly fine with this new nil world and there's nothing wrong with that. Get off my lawn!

I think we are going to end up where the Ivy league schools are eventually and they are going to look at us and ask what took you so long, and call us dumbasses for blowing so much cash.

The schools that had a big advantage in the old model don't like competition in the new model. News at 10.

What’s to stop this guy from taking Michigan’s money and then shopping himself to Texas the next year? Gonna have to start signing these guys to contracts and no-competes.

Or the same year over the off-season?

shite, would be tough to turn down and don’t think LSU would match.

or make $5 million and win a heisman and natty at LSU which isn’t happening at UM and then make $100 million in NFL. He’s locked into LSU it’s over. He had zero interest in michigan and hasn’t stepped foot on their campus in over a year

Yes, and given that players are now "employees", I anticipate that easily jumping to $25 mil range.

When the P2 break away, TV revenue sharing will be the #1 negotiating hangup (followed by multi-year contract requirements) before the union agrees to any type of collective bargaining arrangement.

I love that some schools saw the Jaden Rashada story and thought "Ooh, we want that too!"

Michigan is desperate. DEI hire isn't working.

Still, choosing Brian Kelly over $10 million would be maybe the biggest recruiting gaffe in the history of the sport.

To Vandy's immense credit, they've pocketed all the $ everyone is is burning through, are still going bowling and will soon win a lawsuit to have their QB another year.
