What? I see nothing anywhere and you should retitle thread until it happens, if it even does.

Any breaking news like that should have a source not just some airhead on radio wanting it to happen.

He should have already been fired.

He hurt Hawkins via playcalling. We were down 0-21 before our D had a 2nd series on the field.

He came out pass happy. That was one of the stupidest game plans in history. You have a top tier defense and an awesome punter.

So why not come out and run? Even if you go 3 and out you get your true freshman qb some game snaps to see the flow and speed of SC defense. You then punt and pin them deep. And after a few series you’ll see some passing opportunities but can use them to your advantage. And you might even open up some running lanes and get oline some confidence.

This prevents getting your qb rattled. But after the first play Int Seth doubled and tripled down and this led to a fumble and another Int. And now down 0-21 mere minutes into game.

He should have been fired right then.

Says one thing and does another with his pass focused game plan

I just don't see how this is going to help our wide receiver or quarterback situation. People keep saying we can scheme something anyway. But if you don't have the personel to execute any of those schemes, (or any scheme at all effectively) how is this magical unicorn scheme supposed to magically become reality?

Now if Littrell is somehow responsible for our wild wide spate of OL/WR injuries, even indirectly by poor preparation or poor monitoring, that's a different story....

It is true, we don't have the personnel to run the offense as it was designed. But we can choose NOT to throw a true freshman QB to the wolves or under a bus, take your pick, with that ridiculously retarded gameplan to begin the game. They basically said "we see your strengths; now match them up with our weaknesses!" Absolutely retarded.

Someone had to face the music, but it will only get louder with JJF taking over play calling. Probably saves Venables and gives him another year for Joe C to find a replacement.

There is no magic pill. But, we can scheme to help.

We use a lot of RPO. What that means is the QB has to quickly scan field and decide if he hands off to RB or holds ball for a pass. While he’s deciding if he holds ball for pass or hand off this takes time. If he decides to pass he is now behind on the pretend shot clock. So when he starts to scan for receiver he has less time to decide as our line has failed. This results in a panic throw or panic run.

Now imagine an OC who changes plays to either only run or only pass. No RPO. This helps in many ways. First, the way oline blocks for a run or pass is different. They are facing forward so don’t know which play the QB will choose. It hurts them nit knowing, and unless we have a good oline it fails a lot.

If we call a run play only they know its not about holding a block its about moving your defender to a specific spot to make room for a run. If we call a pass only they are not worried about making a hole but to just move defender in a way to protect a circle area in the qb spot.

Thats one way you can help your young qb.

And also, if you go more run focused as a scheme you can work on that more in practice. It helps your qb get in a rhythm and not rattled to start game. Even at worst, you go 3 and out your awesome punter can pin them deep and let your awesome defense get the ball back. You shorten the game and might find some run holes after 3 or 4 series. And when they start crowding box you might see some passing chances open up to exploit as game goes on. And your qb will not have been pressured so much.

Its not a long term fix but just those few schematic things can help your offense. And as year progresses you get some players back healthy.

Also check this out

OU running backs collectively ran the ball 23 times for 97 yards averaging 4.2 ypc.

2 attempts of 4 yards
4 attempts of 5 yards
2 attempts of 6 yards
2 attempes of 7 yards
1 attempt of 11 yards

Also 3 handoffs in short yardage situations that were successful.

Every RB averaged 4+ yards per carry.

I’m not a fan of Joe C and Venables most likely isn’t going anywhere either. But they definitely need to clean house on the offense side. At this point DM, JJF and BB are liabilities.

Not sure firing SL mid-season will make things better, but it really can’t get much worse than things currently are now. Hopefully we can salvage recruitment and make a great OC hire in the offseason. BV’s job will depend on it.

I think its possible our bad oline is skewed by bad schemes.

What I’m looking for Sat is 2 things:

1. Ditch RPO and make the play either a run or a pass. That speeds up qb decision and means oline has less to do so to speak. OL will know what to do before ball is snapped.

2. Run the ball more. Eats clock but also gets qb some easy snaps and comfort. And we might just find some holes to exploit. And that might open up some passes as game goes

This dude! James Coley, who served as Co-Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Georgia in 2018 and then Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Bulldogs in 2019, is currently the team's Assistant Head Coach.
