That they're in a similar situation as A&M was with Fisher.

There's no forward progress. It's time to be real and cut their losses and find someone who at the very least has not proven that he can't win the games that really matter.

Does anyone agree? In particular, what do Rebel fans think?

Ole Miss has a ceiling. It's not the coach.

He’s the best we’ll get, more than likely. I’d prefer to change OCs and see where we go from there.

Are you under the delusion that Lane isn’t calling your plays ? I don’t care what puppet they put in the booth. Lane is your play caller.

Ole Miss went all in this season with throwing money at every big portal transfer. It has not had the effect they hoped.

This is what the peak of success in for that program is. They haven’t won a meaningful game in December since 1963. Lane will be gone after this year or next year. Ole Miss will be back to pure mediocrity. They will never win a title period

Guy’s a fraud. 11 of our last 15 SEC games we’ve scored under 30 points. He can’t or refuses to recruit and he gets pushed around by his subordinate coaches. Charlie Weiss Jr has no business being an offensive coordinator but Kiffin refuses to make changes to his staff. We have enough $NIL money that 8 wins is the floor and that’s about where we’ll finish. I genuinely hope Florida hires him this offseason then we just promote Pete Golding.

Ole Miss kinda looks like A&M under Fisher to be honest.. good comp

And this solution can 100% work if you buy the right guys.. but molding them together in a way to make it work is the trick.. and if Lane ever did win a ring, he might go on a run..

They need to stick with Lane and focus on the cohesion / culture part. That’s easier said than done.

Oh.. and they need to stop leaving points on the field.

I can see paying a big-time portal player if he's your missing piece, but I don't foresee these teams of pure mercenaries ever having much success. They're all in it for themselves and don't give a shite about the team.

He’s one of 3 coaches we have that can recruit and our defense is a significantly better unit than our offense. Take play calling out of his hands and we probably have a top 5 defense in college football this season

Who are they supposed to go get?

It takes time to build something even when you have the in-built advantage of a strong football tradition in the modern era. It takes even longer when you don’t.

I don’t believe in “that’s who they are so that’s all they’ll ever be” talk. But if a program aspires to be better than their history then they have to invest years in building the infrastructure to accomplish that.

I leave it to the Ole Miss fans to tell us whether Kiffin is actually building that or not. I don’t follow them enough to know.

But watching LSU rebuild from the post-natty collapse has been eye opening. We knew season 1 was a wash and expected to go 7-5, and we got lucky it went better than that. We basically lost all of season 2 and may end up losing season 3 to bad hiring decisions made years ago. Even for a program with a ton of infrastructure, recent winning tradition, and money who went out and got their guy, it only takes a couple of hiring mistakes to throw you off your trajectory by a couple of years. These things are difficult and fickle.

The coach is the most important part of building a culture, right?

Fisher and Elko again serve as a good comparison. The culture changed a little from Sumlin to Fisher and a lot from Fisher to Elko.

After this season concludes, it will be the winningest 4-year stretch in Ole Miss history. They just completed their best season in school history last year

They only have themselves to blame for not being undefeated up to this point, sure. But to compare their situation to Jimbo Fisher, say they have no forward process and state that their only option is to move on from the most successful coach in school history is stupid

Going from awful to good is a great thing.

But they don't want good. They want championships, and Kiffin doesn't seem to have that in him.

Do you disagree?

This is what happens when you pay mercenaries to play plain and simple. Walter Nolan being the key link between Fisher & Kiffen

they’ve finished in the top 10 twice in the last 3 completed seasons. Thats great for ole miss

Of course they want to win the big one, but only 1 team does out of 20 that have legitimate expectation

This is not a good take

I appreciate you trying to use reason, Archie.

Still, more than 1 team has an expectation and the means to get there.

Georgia. Texas. Alabama. A&M. LSU. Ole Miss.

Those are just some SEC teams.

So if one of those teams wins it all, then did all 5 other teams have a failure of a season and deserve to put their coach on the hot seat?

That's the point your OP is trying to make.
