Idk, all reports I’ve seen say the opposite, Napier is why Lagway is here. Now, if Kiffin comes, I have a feeling he’ll stick around.
He's not going to stay if we are terrible under Napier...

Again if Napier starts Mertz over Lagway and we lose they should go ahead and Fire Napier then. No reason to start a limited QB like that when you can develop Lagway. If Lagway self destructs really bad you can put Mertz back in.

Keeping in mind it’s Samford, but if you had said that’s a true freshman making his first start in Week 2 I would not have believed you. Even at the post game pc he spoke like an experienced upperclassman. He’s extremely polished and projects leadership. It’s easy to see why they made an exception to the rule of not allowing freshman to speak to the media.
I don’t recall ever seeing a dual threat QB that can throw that accurately and with that touch. It reminded me of Wuerffel the way he was releasing the ball before the receiver made their break and only they could catch it.
He’s going to make mistakes and against better competition probably get picked trying to force it into those tight windows when the check down is open. But he’s also stretching the field and defense. We actually passed to set up the run last night and forced the defense out of the box which I haven’t seen in years. He even made o line look better than they are, but that’s what special players do: they make everyone around them better.
Fans and boosters will give grace to allow Lagway and this young group to grow together. But to do that you have to commit to starting him.

If Mertz can go you have to start him but you have to have some packages for lagway.
What does Mertz have over Lagway besides experience? He’s good at dink and dunk that’s it. Can’t run, can’t throw deep.

I agree mertz probably doesn't throw for 456 against Samford. But no QB at Florida should have to throw for 400 + Against Samford. If nothing else the O-line should have had enough a push in that game to rush for 400+.
If you all want that then hey let Napier do that. But when lagway has a a very rough outing and throws 3 or 4 int don't say well Napier should have pulled him and put Mertz back in
If you going to go with Lagway this early then you have to play him all the way!!!

I’m fine with that. Lagway’s playmaking ability could possibly be the reason we win a few games. Mertz doesn’t have the ability to be that type of playmaker. Yes Lagway will likely not look like he did yesterday against better competition but I’d make the switch and roll with it.

I just think if you tell mertz. Hey we don't want you now. After he had a solid year last year.
He comes into this year as the starter. He gets a concussion in the first game where the O line couldn't block the ohms for the sisters of the poor.
Then against completely inferior opponents he puts up big numbers because the oline couldn't get a push to run the ball.
You should have just told mertz after the season hey we rolling with Lagway as a freshman you should transfer so you can build off of the good year you had last year.
I do not think it's very fair to Mertz
If mertz plays and has a bad start and looks bad again then you can justify but right now, no.
Just my opinion.

Imo you can do it. Mertz has no lock on starting considering he has a losing record here as a starter.

And the poor o-line play is one of the reasons I'd give him for going with Lagway.
