How many games can Bama drop this year before the fans call the DeBoer experiment a fail?

They may go undefeated. They very well could with the talent they have. And granted it's not so much a matter of if they lose one, but how they lose it that will make a difference, but I'm as curious as anyone else about how DeBoer will do. We all know the expectations. Just wondering what it would take for the crowd to become restless.

What if Georgia goes 8-4?

Any loss before Georgia game would be a concern. I think a slip up at either UT or LSU would be acceptable, if the other is having a really good year. Losing all three of those would probably be as much as would be tolerated.

N/A

It's the first year of a brand new coaching staff, you can't judge them a "failure" at all, unless they went like 6-6 or something.

Why would any self-respecting football fan sit around and contemplate losing? And particularly at ALABAMA? The Mecca of college football.

You are what you think. I think when you come to Tuscaloosa you are in big trouble.

I believe we will go 9-3, maybe 10-2 with the schedule we have this year. It's hard to expect any better. I hope our fans give him some time, but I know how we are and we've come to expect big things every year. The sane fans will give him 2-3 years before we give him any grade.

Deboer's recruiting has been off the charts. Top 2 in the country. I expected some fall off after Saban but that has not been the case. Pleasantly surprised

What sucks is that he’s a good coach and probably going to get the most out of Milroe.

Maybe "fail" was too strong of a word, but let's face it , Bama fans are very used to winning. It's a fact some were calling for Saban to step down after the rocky start with Milroe last year. We all witnesses that. I think if they were to lose to UGA in an ugly loss, or were to have 2 losses going into the LSU game it could get dicey at the fan level. Again, not saying it is gonna happen, just pondering here.....

It’s a valid question. How will gumps react if they somehow drop UGA, UT, OU and LSU then get upset by Wisky or Auburn to finish 7-5?

You know. I've got a lot of respect for you due to the levelheaded content you post, so I'm not gonna sit here and denigrate you like some teenage kid.
That said, you know as well as I if ya'll drop the UGA game and either Tennessee or Missouri or both, there's gonna be weeping and gnashing of teeth among the fans. Not the boosters or admin, but the fans are gonna start going full tilt, especially with LSU, Oklahoma and Auburn still to be played. The same thing would happen at UGA.

Well, if it was any other fanbase, he'd get a mulligan season even if they went 8-4. But the Tide fans are unrealistic, spoiled, whiners. So, if they drop the game to Wisconsin, they'll be all over the talk shows saying he's a failure. Then if he drops the UGA game, they'll be even more upset, but he'll probably be forgiven for losing to us. Buuuuuuuut, then let them drop the game to Ole Miss or LSU and they'll be breaking out the pitchforks and torches. I'll get stoned of course for saying all of this, but somebody go ahead and bookmark this thread/post and we'll revisit it if they lose 3-4 games this season...you heard it here.

Five losses. If he goes 8-4, they call it an SEC learning curve. Three or less losses, and it's pretty good for year one.

If you asked any honest Bama fan, we have been living on the edge for 3 years now. The product hasn’t been crisp, well-organized, and disciplined.

Whether that was due to Saban’s age, or his inability to get better assistants or bad recruiting evaluations, it is amazing that Alabama didn’t have a true rebuilding year along the way. We simply out talented everyone.

So, in this new SEC with insanely difficult schedules, I think most Bama fans would be OK if we lost 3-4 games this year, provided that recruiting stays at a high level AND they see a team that is well-coached.

Transitions are tough, but I would rather the learning curve come this year and have a solid foundation to work with rather than a 11-1, 10-2 type season that overlooks the cracks that we all have seen the past few years.

Fair enough.

I just don't see how one could call anything a failure in Year One unless Alabama goes 4-8 or worse.

We even gave Mike DuBose four years. No one is getting fired in their first season unless there are legal/personal conduct issues.

I think this is the key right here.
