Why does catfish get two entries? And both in the same quadrant of the bracket? Did our local catfish farmer rig it to get into the final four?

A bit surprised only one casserole made the list. Thank heaven it isn't the much dreaded Pineapple Casserole.

my bad, "catfish #1" is legit

"catfish" #2 should be Collard greens (or mustard or turnip)

That's funny. I had the same thought last night.

My grandmother (RIP) made poke salad taste better than any greens.

I'd also add dove and quail to the dumplings category.

quote:

shut the frick up, you ain't never ate that shite

The depression era south could make anything taste good. Poisonous arse pokeweed included. And, they held onto those dishes forever. My grandmother would almost get mad at people for letting their pokeweed get to big before cutting it, as if they were wasting food.

Squirrel brain and scrambled eggs was even a breakfast favorite that stayed with some of them for a long time. But, I would never try it.
