Vitello's agent would definitely listen if State called.
Likely would depend how he feels about his current trajectory at Tennessee, at that time.

Didn’t Butch Thompson already tell MSU to kick rocks after they let Andy go?
I heard Butch passed because of Cohen being the AD at State.
I don’t think Butch & Cohen don’t get along. It was more Butch wanting to distance himself from Cohen/State & prove he could run his own program as a head coach at Auburn.
With Cohen now at Auburn and Butch showing he can get a team to Omaha. Butch may be willing to make a move to State.

the Texas job will be open this year or next imo.. Pierce may survive this year because the Big 12 isn’t all that great, but he will likely get his arse handed to him next year, unless he brings in some elite talent this offseason.
Yes he has been to Omaha 3 times.. but only one of those teams had a chance to win it. There is a culture problem.
Why do I bring it up? CDC (AD) is one of the best in the business and he is probably already putting out feelers to test the market.
I don’t have a clue who he will go after, but I suspect a lot of SEC coaches will be in the mix. Corbin was supposedly on the hook but there was a death or something and he changed his mind.
I want Vitello. His recruiting would make Texas a monster.
I’d put the odds at about 90% that the Texas job is open in the next 15 months.. but the dude pulls rabbits out of his hat, so who knows..

Dude... we suck. We better be looking for a new coach after this season.

Just to get a little more money from Tennessee. Tony has 2 years left on his deal and will likely push 1.75 million on his base salary from the Vols.

I'd rather have Justin Haire over Vitello's bitch arse anyways.

Absolutely. State, Ole Miss, Arky, SC, and LSU have their athletics structured so that baseball gets more influence, money, and fan support than any other places in the nation.

He’s the highest paid coach in the country by a good bit. Well over 2 million a year

We poached a top pitching coach away from SC.
Honestly, I don't know anymore. Most of our players get worse when they get here. They don't throw as well and they forget how to hit. I'm not sure any coach could overcome it. But then again Lemonis beat LSU 2/3 last year when we weren't much good. We are terrible now though.

They take more pride in their baseball team and facilities than the other sports. We’ll see how the new AD handles baseball, but with Cohen it was baseball first and everything else after. I know a lot of people that were pissed about that approach, but they’ve got a lot of fans that think this way as well
It’s largely due to being the only sport we have a rich history in (and won a natty in).
We were big into basketball for awhile after the final 4 in 96. Football under Mullen.
But baseball has been the only consistent winner over the decades

Vitello is a punk who likes to act like a badass but can’t back it up in crunch time.
His players act just like him and come across as dooshbags.
MSU wants no part of that. They are actually a baseball powerhouse with a great history of winning. They’ll be back soon enough. Too much money invested in that program for them not to win.

Your Vol friends must not know much about SEC baseball and the capabilities that State has regarding baseball. If State wanted Vitello he would listen. This isn't football.
Tennessee is giving Vitello everything he could possibly want. After retractions are finished, Lindsey Nelson Stadium will be one of the nicest stadium on the country. The Vols are spending $90 million on upgrades, basically a new stadium. Also he is the 2nd highest paid baseball coach in the conference, only to Tim Corbin.
Vitello is building a monster at UT and is building his own legacy. He will win a Natty eventually at UT. UT already outbid LSU to keep Vitello. I can assure you that UT is willing to spend what ever it takes to keep him. UT is actually spending just as much money on baseball, as anyone else is right now. Not to mention, UT has one of the best Athletic Directors in the country. Vitello isn’t going anywhere.

Vitello would leave Tennessee in an instant if State offered him
I bet he wouldn’t. Not only does he love it at Tennessee, he’s actually having a direct hand in renovating and rebuilding Lindsey Nelson Stadium. UT is spending as much as anyone on baseball now. The Vols are spending $90 million to upgrade and rebuild Lindsey Nelson stadium. Attendance will only continue to grow as the stadium grows. When UT is done with renovations, which had already started, LNS will hold sound 9K or so. Also Vitello is the 4th highest paid coach in the SEC right now.
Coaches year Salary from 2023:
Corbin- ?
Johnson- $1.65 mill
Bianco- $1.625 mill
Schlossnagel- $1.58 mill
Vitello- $1.5 mill
Van Horn- $1.35 mill
O’Sullivan- $1.29 mill
Lemonis- $1.275 mill
The Vols are not worried about anyone in the SEC now that the administration isn’t afraid to spend money on baseball. Tennessee is spending $90+ million on upgrades, and schools like Bama put on hold its basketball arena because they didn’t want to spend over $60 million anymore as inflation went up.

Vitello will end up winning a National Title as a HC quicker than Bianco, Corbin and Johnson won their first titles as Head coaches. Tennessee will give Vitello a raise to around $1.7 mill-$1.85 mill a year to renew his contract. He literally is having a direct hand in the renovations. And he has the support from the entire state and admin at UT. Wishful thinking, but Vitello isn’t going anywhere. Loyalty is big with him and his dad loves Knoxville also. Vitello is the only coach in the SEC to make it to Omaha 2 of the last 3 years. UT expectations are Omaha at minimum. Also he can win just as much at UT than he can at State. Tennessee has more money than state does and will spend whatever Vitello wants. We have an administration now that actually cares about winning in all sports.

This. We are too classy of a baseball program to deal with Vitello and his antics. He is perfect for the trash Vol fanbase

Keep that same energy when you come to Knoxville this year. Do I need to remind you what happened to your bitch arse last time you came to Knoxville? Or what about the last two times? Vitello has been a HC half the time as Johnson and will end up winning a natty quicker than Johnson did.

His players act just like him and come across as dooshbags. MSU
His players like playing for him and he is an elite recruiter. Let’s take a look at the teaching classes.
2023:
1. UCLA
2. Arkansas
3. Vandy
4. Tennessee
2024:
1. LSU
2. Tennessee
3. Texas
4. Georgia Tech
5. Auburn
2025:
1. LSU
2. Texas
3. Vandy
4. Tennessee
5. Miami
2026:
1. Stanford
2. Miami
3. Tennessee
4. TCU
5. aTm
Say what you want, but he can recruit with anyone. Also when Tennessee are done with its $90+ million facility upgrades are finished, he will bring even more talent to UT than what he is. You got to remember, he took over a dead program that won 7 SEC games and in his 3rd year he was in Omaha and won the SEC.
quote:
They are actually a baseball powerhouse
Tennessee is the new powerhouse, and is the only school in the SEC that’s been to Omaha 2 of the last 3 years. Vitello will get a national title quicker as a HC than Johnson, Bianco and Corbin got their first one. This is only his 6th year. Also last year was a rebuilding year and one of his least talented teams since 2018( his 2nd year) and yet still made it to Omaha in a rebuilding year.
quote:
great history of winning.
That wasn’t enough for Vitello to take the LSU job. It wasn’t a secret that your fans wanted Vitello. Hell a portion of your fans was convinced not only was you coming to Knoxville to win the Supers, but you where taking Vitello back with you when you left town. Well as you seen, UT made Vitello the 2nd highest coach at the time and he told LSU to kick rocks. Vitello loves working for Danny White.

Not true anymore. We lost out on two studs last year because we didn't pony up. I just think many of our ****s would actually rather lose, so they can gripe, than win. Winning would cost them their money.
