Wow, looks like the nation only cares about LSU when they play Alabama. Interesting.

You can't blame them for showing Alabama most when Alabama also brings the most eyeballs. I am surprised at how relatively few times LSU was featured, but I imagine some of that is due to LSU's own fixation on playing at night.

Miss St was helped by playing several big games vs Bama. Georgia is hurt by hardly ever playing Bama.
See figures with Bama games not included.
However, even with Bama games taken out, MSU had a fairly solid number… even ahead of LSU

This is exactly right. But still, LSU doesn’t bring in the viewership numbers you would think they should.
Part of the problem is Louisiana is a relatively small state that is shrinking. And their largest population center is filled with a bunch of artsy type people who would rather go to some zydeco event on a Saturday rather than watch football.

They showed the team that was at or near the top of college football during this entire period of time more than any other team. Shocking.

I feel like Kentucky's 5 appearances were all either v Georgia or Florida

If you balance the two lists… the one with Bama and the one without…it’s obvious to me that when it comes to producing eyeballs on the TV…
Bama is the ratings king.
Auburn and Georgia are next in line.
The rest of the Big 6 and A&M are 4-7 in some order.
Florida is particularly disappointing considering the size of that state.

Three vs Georgia. One vs Florida. And actually one against Mississippi State in 2014 that hit a 5.0 million mark.

Wow. Kind of puts in perspective how dominant the NFL is. Bills-Chiefs divisional round had 50 mil+ viewers. Peak was 56 mil. It’s a crazy machine.

Georgia has national level games against Florida, Tennessee and Auburn that are always in the mix for the premier "CBS" slot.
There were also certain games which are almost always CBS games:
Bama-LSU
Iron Bowl
Cocktail Party
3rd Saturday
UGA-UT
You could argue Bama-A&M was in that mix as well as most of those games ended up on CBS.
So once you subtract those national interest games there are only a few slots per year and they primarily go to whoever is top 5 which most years during that stretch was usually Bama and/or UGA.
Not much left for everyone else, but moving forward the afternoon slot will be for the 2nd choice game and the primetime game will be the 1st choice game.
With the night kickoff being the premier slot moving forward I wonder how that's going to impact LSU and the other schools which always prefer to kick late as opposed to during the afternoon?
For example, if Texas is playing Georgia at 7pm , does LSU get to kickoff at 6pm against Florida?
Hopefully with all the ad revenue flowing to Disney now they wont care and will let major games conflict with each other.

Surprised LSU is so low considering the fact that they've easily been the third best program in the SEC over the past ten years. Plus they have a pretty large fanbase as well. It might be due to the lack of rivalries they have with other programs in the SEC. There's nothing comparable to DSOR or WLCP or TSIO or certainly the Iron Bowl that CBS will automatically put on their schedule. It's Bama when both teams are good and that's it.

I would rather watch an LSU night game than watch them play on CBS at 2 thirty. and if Gary Danielson is the announcer then I won't watch them at all.

LSU’s numbers when you take out games against Bama are particularly surprising.
The average SEC on CBS game on Saturday at 2:30 was 5.82 mil. Games involving LSU not against Bama that hit this mark or above were:
vs Texas A&M 2013- 7.51 mil
@ Georgia 2013- 7.39 mil
vs Auburn 2019- 7.18 mil
@ Auburn 2018- 5.94 mil
That’s it. Their other 12 games were well under including a couple against Ole Miss that failed to hit even 3.2
