I was too young to see Snake or Broadway Joe play ball but I regret missing out.

Beta geeks like Finebaum convinced the populace that guys like Stabler were bad and society is worse off for it.

The absolute best QB in NFL history....off the field.

It was fricking awesome watching him play. His 4th quarter comebacks were legendary.

Met Stabler in Columbia in 2001. He was the color commentator for Alabama. My, then 11 year old, son and I were at a steakhouse down in the Vista part of town and the Alabama radio crew were at big table beside our booth.
He was pounding liquor and having a good time. I spoke to him and congratulated him on his career. He was very appreciative and genuinely nice and gracious.
Next day we beat Alabama 37-36. I think Shula was their coach.

Legend. He committed to Bama, drove up to Foley HS in a Vette the next day & the rest is history.

Even thought I was not a fan when he ran in the mud to beat Auburn, I was a big fan when he was in the NFL.
The book, Snake, is very entertaining and is worth reading.

Man I have to check this out. I loved the John Madden Raiders teams and no QB has ever looked cooler dropping back to pass than the Snake. Probably a top 5 athlete I'd want to have a beer with as well. For fans of Super 70's Sports on Twitter, they post Stabler stuff all the time.

Smoking cigs during half time and not taking care of your body. Shows poor commitment to the game and lack of discipline back then.

The Snake was the best QB to ever play at Alabama ; Alabama should have been the National Champion in 1966.
