quote:WTF are you talking about? Nate gets about $3M for NIL but he is putting us in that tournament next year for an extra $1M…so we will have $4M for NIL.UK basketball has about the same.
I'm not even sure that the situation with NIL at BAMA football is that good by comparison.

I hope with all my heart he stays, but I’m certainly not confident he will.
If he leaves, it will be total heartbreak. I love Bama bball as much as football. I really hope he wants to be here as much as we’d like to believe he does.
Only sure thing is the butterfly effect of this will shape the future of the national landscape in college hoops for years to come..

Im just going to say im certainly concerned. We all knew that this crossroads would eventually come and we find out which direction he goes.
BUT...
What an unbelievably bad hire by Arkansas. They just agreed to pay a 33 million dollar buyout plus im assuming they will pay Cal in the ballpark of 8-10 mill a year. This is all for a coach who has clearly demonstrated that he has struggled to adjust to the new era of college basketball and his track record over the past 8 years at a school with ALL the amenities to win with little coaching effort is not good.

Scott Drew's buyout is 4 million, Oats is 18 million according to the field of 68 Basketball channel who have guys with contacts. Drew has won a title at Baylor in 2021, with less talent. I think Nate has 3 girls under 15, not the be all end all sign, but he's already making bank at Bama, where he will never have UK type pressure, Bama the football school will always have more money than UK in the end, he w

THIS... I can't understand why Arkansas would eat an upfront cost of 40-43 mill for a guy that has all the signs of the game passing him by and he is 65 years old.. Why not just make Drew the highest paid coach in basketball and offer him 12 million a year and whatever he wants. Heck, even Otzelberger would have made more sense.

Sorry meant to add. They also just gave one of the greatest blue bloods in college basketball a complete get out of jail free card for making a horrible contract agreement with Cal. Kentucky was in a bit of shambles trying to figure out when it economically made sense to can Cal and they decided they would weather 1 or 2 more years. Just such a bad all around move by Arkansas. If they were going to spend this much money, they had so many better options.

and Arky is going to free up $33m for UK to use to not pay his buyout.
Even if UK poach us Ark would still be the biggest loser by a lot. This hire reeks of desperation

Oats and Drew are probably the top two most realistic candidates. I’m sure they’ll put feelers out to Donovan, Wright, Stevens. Drew is solid, but Oats is the hot name right now. I don’t think he would leave, but he’s gonna listen. It’s Kentucky basketball. It’s like Alabama football.

Kentucky wants Scott Drew from Baylor first. If he says no to Kentucky then I would be more concerned

Because Hurley wouldn't leave UCONN. He's about to go back-to-back. Hurley is also from the northeast. Why leave a program that you've built into a fricking juggernaut? He's going to make over $7m this season with his bonuses.
So you are saying there's no chance that Hurley leaves uconn for a 3 million dollar raise (using your 10 million number. Would probably be more since you included the bonus in the 7 million number). No chance?

No buyout if he leaves in his own accord. It was only that large to fire him.

I imagine there was some negotiation to lessen the buyout between both parties since there was clear differences between the two (ie, a divorce). I've heard numerous agents say over the years that rarely are these buyouts actually paid straight up.

And two days from our first final four and this thread turned to shite over UK's coaching search. How about you 10 million dollar boys start a UK coaching search thread and kindly leave this one?

I truly hope they go after Oats and he tells them to frick off just to humble UK fans. They are more arrogant than our football fans. They just assume anybody will want the job

Oats will come out today or tomorrow and say he is not interested and we rolling baby !!
