Burnett looked like he is moving better now than he was at any point during the season last year. Being more than a year back from his injury seems to have helped him. Looked a lot more bouncy and had a quicker first step.

Show me a guard thats good at defense that doesn't get many steals. Its a fine stat to go by when you're talking about Burnetts lack of them and how he should get a ton of them having a 6’9 wingspan or whatever he has. Steals should be his specialty. He shouldve gotten more than 4 blocks last season too.
Trae Young has nearly triple the amount of steals per game that Jrue Holiday does this season. Not saying that steals aren't valuable, but it's not a good basis for determining a player's value on that end. In fact, of the top guard defenders in the NBA, I would wager most have very middling to even below average steals numbers.

In the past, Allen Iverson has been the steals leader three years in a row. But no one said he was the best defender.
Of course, steals are important, but ultimately the purpose of defense in basketball is to neutralize the opposing team's offence by blocking their movements.
This also applies to blocks.
Draymond Green's career high blocks are 1.4.
And his career block average is 1.
Six seasons in which he averaged more than one block.
Six seasons in which he averaged less than one block.
But here are his awards:
DPOY
Defensive first team 4 times
Defensive second team 4 times

Why exclude how many times he has kicked folks in the dick?
Thats why he is DPOY.

Dray was DPOY because of how much he communicates on the defensive end, plus the fact that he can guard 1-5 (or could when he was younger). He like the MLB of a football team getting everyone on the same page with his communication.

Draymond greens not a guard hes a power forward and Nimari Burnett is nowhere near in his league on defense.
You guys can misremember butnett as being good and want him back if you want.
In 5 of his last 9 games here he scored 0 points and his defense wasn't good. He was encouraged to transfer.

I never called Draymond Green a guard. This is just an example of a block. I was just talking about the illusion of stats. Stats don't judge everything.

Well stats judge a lot. Show me a good defensive guard in the NBA or college that averages less than 1 steal a game like Burnett does.

I draft Herb Jones, who has lots of steals and blocks, over Burnett, who has many fewer. We’ll see how Nimari’s draft goes.

NBA - Derrick White (Boston Celtics)
He averaged 0.6 steals last season. And he was selected to the Defensive Second Team.
And he averaged 0.7 steals per game for his career.

Well thats twice as many steals a game as Burnetts 0.3 so I guess he has that going for him.

To be honest, I have no interest in Burnett, who is no longer on our team. I just want to let you know that stats don't tell everything.

Point taken. My point is Burnett wasnt good on offense or defense last year and I think his stats reflect that, you can point out players who are good that don't have great stats but he isnt one of them.

Soap box: when they pushed 3 point line back a few years ago but didnt widen the court. Its almost impossible to catch the ball on the sides.
