1978- UGA 22 Auburn 22. UGA lost only twice this season and finished in the top 15 while Auburn barely rose about .500, however the Tigers busted out the seldom worn orange jerseys and played UGA to a tie on the plains. Supposedly the first color photos of AU in the orange tops:

1982- UGA 19 Auburn 14. This last second deflection in the endzone helped secure UGA's 3rd straight SEC title and a trip to the sugar bowl

1983- AU 13 UGA 7. Bo Jackson ends UGA streak of 3 straight SEC titles with one for Auburn

1986- UGA 20 AU 16. Georgia secured win on the plains and jubilant fans rushed the field. AU personnel doused the fans with hoses, then turned them into the stands. The infamous "game between the hoses"

1992 UGA 14 AU 10. AU had a late drive but when Stan White tried a keep at the goal line and didn't get it, UGA players remained on the ground. Refs couldn't get the ball lined up in time and time ran out for AU.

1996 UGA 56 AU 49. The first OT game in SEC history went for 4 periods, and included a 2nd half comeback by UGA and Mike Bobo hitting corey allen on a bomb in the last play of regulation to send it to OT.

2000 AU 29 UGA 26. Not as thrilling as 1996, but it was the 2nd OT game in the series and featured Rudi Johnson plunging in late for the win.

2001 AU 24 UGA 17. Richt's first DSOR, UGA had the ball on the goal line late but after a run with no timeouts left the clock ran out. Shades of 1992. Richt tries to line up but time runs out.

2002 UGA 24 AU 21. UGA's first east title.

2003 UGA 26 AU 7. Game was never in doubt, UGA wins 2nd straight east title as Odell Thurman returns a Jason Campbell interception 99 yards to seal it.

2004 AU 24 UGA 6. Auburn dominates on the way to an undefeated season.

2005 AU 31 UGA 30. DJ Shockley's return from injury. Back and forth the whole way, AU capitalizes on a safety miscue on 4th down for a long gain and a game winning FG.

2006 UGA 37 AU 15. #5 Auburn still had title hopes while hapless UGA came in losers of 4 of their last 5. Brandon Cox completed as many passes to UGA DBs as AU WRs.

2007 UGA 45 AU 20. AU kept it close for a half but ultimately couldn't keep up. One of the crazier atmospheres in Sanford ever.

2009 UGA 31 AU 24. Close game that wasn't decided until AU's last effort of the game fell short, helped by a jarring hit by Bacarri Rambo on a receiver that would've scored the tying touchdown.

2010 AU 49 UGA 31. Heavy underdog UGA kept it close for about 3 quarters but in the end Cam was too much as AU would continue towards an undefeated and national title season.

2011 UGA 45 AU 7. UGA got payback on a bad auburn squad.

2012 UGA 38 AU 0. This could have been much worse.

2013 AU 43 UGA 38
2013 featured an AU team that would go on to win the SEC and play for the national title against an underwhelming UGA team. AU would storm out to a huge lead, then see it disappear on the gargantuan effort of aaron murray, only to recapture the lead in the final minute. Holding calls optional.

2014 UGA 34 AU 7 A pretty good UGA looked for revenge against an alright AU team, and they got it in spades. AU would race to a 7-0 lead on their first possession and not score again.

2015 UGA 20 Auburn 13
. AU would score on their first possession.Just before the 4th quarter UGA would score to tie it at 10, before Isaiah Mckenzie took a punt back for a TD early in the 4th to go ahead 17-10.

2016 UGA 13 Auburn 7. For the 3rd year in a row, Auburn (#9 this contest) would jump to a 7-0 lead and not find the end zone again. Bama transfer Mo Smith saves the day in Kirby's first DSOR.

2017 AU 40 UGA 17 UGA entered this game 2nd in the country (and 1st in the playoff rankings) but looked completely overmatched most of the day. Not a lot went right while AU was firing on all cylinders. A sorta close game near 1.5 quarters turned into a blowout to give AU its first of two wins over #1 ranked teams in 3 weeks ending the season.

2017 UGA 28 AU 7 (SEC Championship) For the first time, one of the league’s permanent inter-division rivalries would meet again in the SECCG. UGA was whooped at the LOS in the regular season meeting just weeks earlier, but UGA’s offensive game plan and a shuffled OL roster helped even that up. UGA decided to attack the outside and pass more on early downs which softened up AU’s defense a bit, and the defense shut down AU’s run game. UGA would win the rematch and go on to win its 13th SEC title, good for 2nd most in league history.

2018 UGA 27 AU 10 In what is becoming a strange yet consistent trend in this series, for the 4th game in a row in the series in Athens AU would score a TD in the 1st quarter and no more the rest of the game. The game was just 3 points apart until less than a minute before halftime when Terry Godwin took a 4th down pass for a touchdown to give some breathing room. Swift would do his thing early in the 4th to ice it. With this year’s win Auburn has now gone winless in Athens since 2005, and has not scored more than 1 TD in Athens since 2009.

2019 UGA 21 AU 14 Despite a lackluster James Coley offense UGA would surge to a 21-0 lead heading into the 4th quarter. After UGA’s last touchdown the offense would go 3 and out the rest of the game. AU would score to get some life, then would score again on the first rushing defense allowed by UGA all season. After getting the ball back with 6 minutes left and down 7 AU would drive into UGA territory but turn the ball over on downs. UGA would again go 3 and out and AU got the ball with 2 minutes left, but a Travon Walker sack on 4th down would end AU’s comeback hopes.

2020 UGA 27 AU 6 Auburn did buck their strange scoring trend in Athens but it did little good. Zamir White controlled the run game and Stetson Bennett in his first ever start was efficient enough to keep the Auburn defense off balance. UGA led 24-0 with a few minute before intermission and the game was never seriously in doubt. Auburn is now 0-7 in recent trips to Athens.

2021 UGA 34 AU 10 This game was a bit tighter than the score may seem. It was 3-3 after 1 and a two-score game at half. Heading into the 4th quarter it remained a two-score game but UGA’s defense stifled any real AU threats and UGA would end up adding another 10 points in the 4th quarter to wrap it up.

2022 UGA 42 AU 10 Much like last year this game was a bit closer for a while than the final would indicate. It was 0-0 after 1 and just 14-3 midway through the 3rd quarter. In an 11 minute span of game clock UGA would add 3 touchdowns though, kick started by Stetson Bennett's dazzling 64 yard touchdown run. AU's inability to do anything at all through the air with Robby Ashford would be problematic for their offense who would not do much of anything all day. With this win it ensures that it will be at LEAST 18 calendar years between AU wins in Athens.

Always one of my favorite games of the season.

I think Auburn will play UGA tough, but UGA will pull away in the second half and win by 17 or so.

Believe that Auburn team had the backfield of Brooks, Andrews and Cribbs. That was a tough threesome to deal with there.

Wow ... Great post!!!

Love the history. Nothing like Ole Skule SEC football. So rich in tradition. Great post.

Auburn fans are pretty numb right now and impervious to trash talk. They are convinced that they suck really bad right now but things will get better in the future. That seems like a rational take to me. I think that Hugh Freeze will do a really good job there. Any coach that beat Nick Saban back when Saban was in his prime two years in a row obviously knows what he's doing.

True, but I dont post this annually to talk trash to auburn fans. I post it so the rest of the board that may not be aware can really understand how thoroughly we have dominated them. Since auburns last victory in Sanford, vandy has beaten us as often as auburn has.

Love this game for the same reason I love the 3rd saturday. Historically great SEC programs, border states, lots of fans of other team live in your state. Games that stand out to me.

1978-Wasn't on tv so on the radio we hear "and auburn comes out with orange shirts over white pants". My dad says did he just say orange? Anyway, Georgia needed a win to clinch a tie with Bama for the SEC and Aubie tied them.

1982- UGA stops Auburn at like the 20 (look at the sugar falling from the sky) on the last drive

1983- Auburn ends UGA's 3 year stranglehold on the SEC and Auburn wins the conference.

1986- James Jackson's grandmother passes away the day before the game and Wayne johnson leads UGA to an upset. UGA fans storm Auburns field ony to get soaked with fire hoses.

1996-Auburn is blowing out UGA like 28-14 and Juan Daniels proceeds to become a playmaker in the 4th quarter. UGA hits a pass on the last play and then, ever how many overtimes later, UGA wins.

Love this series. Almost as much as the 3rd saturday.
