CBS Sports decided to take a look at the 12-team CFP field ahead of Week 3 just to see what they think it would look like.

The 12-team CFP format begins next season, 2024.

#1 -- GEORGIA BULLDOGS (bye week)

#2 -- Michigan Wolverines (bye week)

#3 -- Florida State Seminoles (bye week)

#4 -- TEXAS LONGHORNS (bye week)

#12 Tulane Green Wave @ #5 USC Trojans (winner plays #4 TEXAS)

#11 TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS @ #6 Ohio State Buckeyes (winner plays #3 Florida State)

#10 ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE @ #7 Penn State Nittany Lions (winner plays #2 Michigan)

#9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish @ #8 Washington Huskies (winner plays #1 GEORGIA)

My brain cannot comprehend how awesome it would be to host a playoff game in your own stadium.

Kinda sucks that you miss out on that if your team is top 4. Of course you want the bye and the opportunity to skip ahead a round. But if your team is on a run like Bama, Georgia or Ohio State where they seem to perennially be top 4, it kinda sucks you don't get the experience of an on campus playoff game

CFB will be even better when you consider going into the last few weekends there will be probably 16-17 teams/fanbases that can make the playoffs

If you're 17th heading into week 12, you absolutely unequivocally do not deserve the playoffs.

how is it any different than a team sitting at 6 or 7 entering the last weekend making it into the top 4 now?

Point is there will be 16 or 17 teams that will be playing for a playoff spot entering the final 2 games...making cfb more exciting and if your team had a bad game you still have a chance

Why is Tulane ranked so high and being discussed as a playoff team?

And back it up a few weeks and there will probably be 30 teams with scenarios in their dreams to make the playoff.

#6 seed is the best seed out there imo

you get to host a playoff game against a team you should beat..

if you win, you face the #3 seed at a neutral site..then at best #2.. and you avoid #1 until maybe the championship game..

Idk if the home teams get ls to keep that ticket revenue, but it’s a no brainer either way..it would be a huge recruiting weekend as well

and the playoff games at home will be so popular, the field will expand to 16 teams, sooner than later

I think the contract says that the highest ranked G5 conference winner gets a spot.

yep. IDK why so many were against going to the BCS, then playoff and now 12 teams. They say it lessens the regular season but i think it makes it more important b/c more teams will have something to play for come November than the Alamo bowl. I do think it would be better to have all games on campus until the championship game. I would love to see LSU play in the big house or a team come to Tiger Stadium for a playoff game.

agreed, at least until there are 4 teams, but ideally, just the “super bowl” at a neutral site

the problem with this scenario is that it completely deflates the whole bowl system..
which is fine by me.. this would be better, even it means less money

It’s supposed to be Utah but someone screwed up. Utah is #12 currently.

the bowls were special at one time but now we have teams that go .500 and still make a bowl...hell some have gone 5-7 and made bowls. Way too many bowl games. I hate that most are tie ins and don't allow for teams to experience different bowls.
