“Out of respect for the families involved, we have refrained from making any public statements up to this point regarding the circumstances of the tragic accident that claimed two lives and injured two members of our campus community. However, we want the public to know that the Athletic Department is conducting a thorough review, in coordination with appropriate legal counsel, to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
We want to emphasize that these individuals were not engaged in Athletic Department duties around the time of this incident.
I think this is a poor decision and will generate a lot of negative publicity. Nothing good will come from this. Get ready for some lawsuits.

They’re saying the people weren’t involved in athletic dept duties at the time, not that they have zero responsibility. It says they’re currently conducting a review on it.

Lol don't be dramatic. The University may have to shell out some cash, but that's it.
No governing body can do anything to us over this, and our president and AD both have Kirby's back. Don't see how anything super terrible would happen to the program.

What should they say? They don’t know all the facts yet l. I get society thinks shite happens like on tv but at least wait until all the reports and official investigation are done.

I'm sure this isn't the first time that a university owned vehicle has gotten into some degree of an accident. I wonder if there's an agreement that an employee must sign that outlines their responsibilities, rights, and restrictions for using university owned property. If so the university would be protected to some degree in light of any violations to the agreement.

She very well could have been breaking a rule and damned if they would toss her under the bus in this moment.
It would also be silly to take any responsibility legally…even if they had some. Courts don’t reward you for that.

Nothing that young woman signed will absolve the University if this sort of thing was happening with any regularity. If it was, then the University knew or should have known.

Overcoming these issues at any program is what makes for Dynastys another name for an elite program. There is always scandals whether real or fabricated.
I hate this for families as they will have to relive this for years to come with litigation which I would guess is coming.
To me they were doing what you g people do to celbrate major accomplishments. Hate it had to end like this.

If a lawsuit is filed, I would expect for PR reasons the University will settle. I don't see any investigation would damage the football program. Recruiting coordinators are probably out partying with student-athletes at most schools. The latest article I read said they are waiting on the toxicology report. That will likely determine if any action is taken.

We also have to remember that the driver was 24, so drinking and driving is legal as long as you are under .08 on a breathalizer. But a dead person can't blow a breathalizer, so they have to try and use what fluids are left in the corpse to determine whether or not that was above or below the limit. That is going to be the sticking point between lawyers. "Tox shows alcohol was present". But was that above the limit? "We don't know".

1: There's no reason to take the Lord's name in vain.
2: This could very well be a destructive event for all of college football.
C: I don't personally think it is appropriate to refer to a generational tragedy to the athletic program as a "pimple on the arse".
