Is Patch the only news source covering the story?

Or is the story now irrelevant because Alabama basketball is over?

The national media got their clickbait stories out of the false narrative perpetrated by Joe Goodman and others. They never have been interested in the truth. But if Patch has enough video, then Miles lawyers can use that in trial, and that video changes the narrative. The fact that local businesses have been threatened by the DA not to turn over their videos to the defense by "discovery" rules sounds like communist Russia or China. Bad.

Expecting Carol Robinson to do anything other than reword a police press release is asking too much.

Even if Patch is doing nothing more than parroting the defense’s case, it’s still a worthy story. Really sad that the “Alabama Media Group” is either unable or unwilling to cover the story.

TNews update
quote:

Ex-Alabama basketball player Darius Miles has entered into a not-guilty plea for his role in the fatal shooting on Jan. 15 on the Tuscaloosa Strip, according to court documents filed by his defense attorney Mary Turner.

He has also waived his rights to be present at an arraignment and for an attorney to represent him at an arraignment. Miles has been informed of the charge against him and has a received a copy of the charge, according to the document.

A grand jury indicted Miles and Michael Lynn Davis on capital murder charges in March after the shooting death of 23-year-old Jamea Harris on Jan. 15 on the Tuscaloosa Strip.

Investigators believe the gun belonged to Miles, 21, but believe Davis, 21, pulled the trigger, per court documents. Both have been jailed without bond since Jan. 15. A judge denied bond after a preliminary hearing in February, but Miles has another bond hearing set for May 23.

"While we are not surprised by the indictment based on the reality that a person accused of a crime is not allowed to present any evidence to the Grand Jury," read a statement from Turner Law, which is representing Miles after the indictment became public, "we are nonetheless disappointed that the Government presented this case to the Grand Jury as Capital Murder considering the evidence uncovered during our investigation and the obvious weaknesses in the Government’s case brought to light during the preliminary hearing."

If he doesn't show up I think Miles has a good chance of getting these charges dismissed. Their entire indictment is based off of this dude's initial police statement. It's pretty telling he has declined multiple attempts to be interviewed further by the police.

I mean it's a murder case, so I seriously doubt they'll just dismiss it because this guy ignores a subpoena to a bond hearing. That said, I do believe he was not entirely honest with law enforcement and the case will ultimately be dropped if he continues to be uncooperative.

Well, yeah. I didn't mean I think the charges will be dropped on the 24th. But, this guy is the State's key witness and without his sworn testimony they are going to have a hard time making a case.

Why would he when he knows he lied about what happened?

We already heard rumors of video evidence showing a spark comes from the truck he was driving before one comes from the gun Darius gave his dumb friend.

That is enough for a self-defense case and makes him (the boyfriend) the actual one at fault for her death.

That could be a legal defense for Miles, but shooting first doesn't necessarily indicate guilt. He could just as easily claim Miles walked up aggressively, threatened him, and or showed a gun, which made him fire first in self-defense

All could have just as easily been avoided. Nether seem completely innocent IMO.

But the video evidence doesn't support that and Miles never brandished the gun outside the car.

As with most confrontations, this is the truth.

Apologies. Hotel only gave me decaf this AM. Replace Miles with Davis in my last post.

That said, I doubt any of those involved are completely and truly innocent. But, I'm a cynical old fart.
