Why can’t Florida hire a proven winner as a HC?

Since 1990 which is when Florida fans insist football was invented, Florida has never been able to get a proven big name coach in football
Yes spurrier is now a legend. But when he was hired he was Duke’s coach and was rejected by many schools like lsu and Tennessee, and the Gators probably only took him since he played for them. Worked out well in that case.
Then they promoted their special teams coordinator and the Zook era
Began.
Following that failure, they go with Unproven Utah Urban, who only used the Florida job as a stepping stone to his real destination dream job: Ohio State
Ever since Florida has hired losers: Agent Muschamp, Mid Major Mac, Discount Dan, and Bargin Bin Billy.
Last year it made sense that programs like usc and lsu were able to flex on the gators with proven winner hires like Lincoln and Kelly so Florida going tot he discount rack made sense.
But in 2017 lower level programs like faded Nebraska and never been ucla beat Florida out for their coaching targets, which is why they settled for discount Dan.
People always talk about Florida being a top job, but the history shows that it is not since it can’t hire proven winners and the only successful coach they’ve had in the 21st century (urban) only used it as a stepping stone to his dream job.
Florida is a dead program.

We will put them in their place on Nov 5
But the dawgs have WLOCP this week

Not sure what Vince Dooley's previous experience was but none of Ray Goff, Jim Donnan, Mark Richt, or Kirby Smart were "proven winners".

Because you came into a thread about Florida talking about Tennessee fans (unless you meant Texas by UT)
And the Gumps have been butt hurt and obsessed with Tennessee ever since TSIO this year

"proven winners" isn't the right analysis. Just ask 8&Forfeit fans.
What is amazing is that UF seems to be on the wrong side of these hires. Why wouldn't Muschamp work out? He was the most-Saban like Saban disciple until Kirby showed up. The Shark F*cker also succeeded with and without Saban. Mullen took the SECW doormat and made them competitive. That should have been a slam dunk at Florida.
Napier is entitled to three years to build his team, but early results aren't promising.
Florida may suffer from the same problem plaguing Texas and 8&Forfeit. No alignment. Too many powerful boosters. Head coach is answering to too many people. I can't think of another explanation why these three prime schools keep missing on sure things.

Who was the last "proven winner" HC that UGA hired?
Now I'm not saying UGA has not made good hires, but they just promoted Coordinators, not "proven winner" HCs.

Your obsession with Florida is once again noted.

Good observations and I agree 100%

Disagree with this part however.
These were poor hires that Florida made.
Muschamp is clearly not a good HC. He failed at not one but two SEC schools. Great defensive mind and DC, but doesn’t seem to see the big picture to be am effective coach at the SEC level.
What has shark Fricker been successful at without Saban? He had a few decent years at Colorado State, but has been mostly mediocre at CMU and is currently 2-6 and probably going to step down or get fired this year.
Mullen made Miss state competitive at what? He had one decent year with Sal Prescott but is a perennial 4-7 loss coach. There’s a reason why he was floridas 3rd choice after proven winners Chip Kelly and Scott frost(who ended up being a dud) rejected Florida for better programs.
I think you hit it on the head about Florida being a dysfunctional program, but those hires they made were dead on arrival and it’s becuase Florida is a second to third rate program that can only make Bargin bin hires like them and Napier
I’ll say this, they made a mistake firing Mullen and replacing him with Napier. Mullen is a poor coach but probably the best Florida can do now and they could have been a 7-9 win program with him while now they will struggle to be bowl eligible very year until they can sun belt billy

Spurrier isn’t a winner, he’s a quitter

This is your best thread yet.

None of them were sure things. Nothing is ever a sure thing. Our administration doesn’t like paying players. Billy is finally breaking through that obstacle. If Muschamp would have been able to pay like Kirby we would have been golden. Champ spent all his salary cap on D. McElwain didn’t work hard, Mullen worked even less. We haven’t put a premium on getting better players until Napier. It may be too late.

If this turns out to not be true will you meet me at sonic?

C’mon man. At least be a little honest. Scott Frost was never going anywhere other than Nebraska.
