Refugee first heard it in 8th-grade inner tubing down a river in Washington State. Followed by Mary Jane’s Last Dance
Tom Petty was ahead of his time

He literally has a song called "Gainesville".
Also American Girl has a reference to Hwy 441 that runs through Gainesville

Tom Petty had a weird place in my heart. I know basically every one of his songs, I like the songs overall but at the same time don’t like them. I rarely will choose to play his stuff above others.
I think it’s that I like the songs themselves but can’t stand his voice

It’s actually a Traveling Willbury song that he played on. End if the Line. Great group Of artists.

And don't forget that the UF fans, who had never heard of Tom Petty prior to that week, couldn't sing the words to Won't Back Down even though the words were being scrolled on the jumbotron.
As for me, I like just about every song on Full Moon Fever. I had it on tape and then got it on CD.

It was hard to stay focus with the LSU band pissing on his grave.
