Good ol' linebacker nothing beats linebacker

Dawson Merritt would be our second highest rated linebacker in this class, but my honest assessment of him is that he’s good, but not as good of a football player right now as the other linebackers we have committed. That’s no knock on the kid because I really like this linebacker class and he has way too much potential to pass up on. Really good athlete

Bama seems to be at the 85 scholarship limit but are willing to release any number of non-linebacker scholarship players to secure the signature of another linebacker.

I don't want to question our coaches view on recruiting but what is the plan in taking so many linebackers? We need DL too and secondary. Are we recruiting the type of linebackers that can also play secondary if needed? I have full faith in the offensive recruiting but defense is one area I'm a little concerned about.

Storm warning!!! Be prepared for and F-5 crapstorm over questioning our coaching staff

He would be added as a walkon with NIL compensation.

I understand that concern but in reality we are fine, it is just fun to make light of it.
The reality the LB recruits have different skills sets and players could end up in various areas like edge rushers (Sanders) or hybrid LB/S (Johnson).
The other piece is that we could lose a number of experienced linebackers and edge rushers meaning we will need to up those numbers as we will could be young and low.
Currently we only have one less scholarship DB (1 less corner) than we had last season now that portal has closed, so typical DB recruiting should do the job as we will have a lot of young talent on the DB roster that should be around (until the portal opens again lol).

Well rankings are based off of projections not the best player presently. He also is the only one that plays edge majority. Im interested to see if we keep the Myles Johnson commit because he is the previous staffs commit.

Funny you mention Johnson. Alabama hasn’t visited him this spring. No official visit set up either.

No doubt he has the tools. I could see him eventually becoming a Dallas Turner type player off the edge. Can never have too many long armed pass rushers on a roster. Looks like he can run too
