If Kentucky isn’t the South, then nowhere is. As we know, the South is more of a cultural existence than a hard geographic boundary.

Eastern OK = The South
Western OK = The West / Plains

Northern WV = Rustbelt
Southern WV = The South

Most MO = The Midwest
Southern MO = The South

Most of FL = The South
Miami = Cuba

Etc.

West Virginia only exists because they didn’t culturally fit in with a Virginia/the South

First of 20 times I’ll say it again today because that’s how many threads Harry will make in one day.

Harry needs to go to timeout.

Maryland is no longer Southern... like at all. Nor is Northern Virginia for that matter.

IMO, the South is basically the map in the OP, but with that dark red line cut through the middle of Virginia down to North Carolina, and then back over to the coast.

The South has been overrun with people migrating here from other parts of the country. Around urban areas you can't even hear a Southern accent much anymore, amongst the younger generations. I guess in the long run that is to their advantage, being discriminated against because of the way you speak is no fun.

I know Kentucky people migrated to Detroit and other mid-west areas for work back in the 50s and 60s. Has anyone ever heard of Southern people migrating north the way non-Southern people are flocking to the South at the present time??

Will the South even exist in another 50 years??

nah. If it's strictly cultural then I'm sure there's parts of North Dakota that would fit right on in perfectly but no amount of reasoning would ever make them "the south".

Oklahoma is not the south. West virginia is not the south. Missouri is not the south. Florida is not "The South".

North of Lake Okeechobee, Florida is as Southern as any state. Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are NJ/NY.

The farther south you go, the further north you get.
