Head coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks lost the commitment of 2026 four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter on Sunday, as he announced his de-commitment from the Hogs via Twitter.
A product of Cass High School in Cartersville, Georgia, McWorter committed to Arkansas on Aug. 28, 2023. Fans might remember him putting up a billboard along I-49 with the words "Coach Pittman, I want to be a Hog" back in 2021, but he backed off his pledge Sunday.
"De-committing is something that never even crossed my mind last August when I committed to the Razorbacks," McWhorter wrote in a statement. "Even now, my love for the Hogs and Coach Pitt hasn't changed. After lots of thought, prayer and conversations with my family I realize I only get to go through this process once in my life and have a long way to go before I put pen to paper. With that being said I will be de-committing from Arkansas in order to take more time and rest assure I make the right decision for my future."
McWhorter holds offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas, Ole Miss and others. His cousin is 2026 four-star quarterback Brodie McWhorter — also from Cass High School — who recently committed to West Virginia.
Arkansas is now down to just one commitment in the 2026 class — four-star defensive back Tay Lockett out of Bellflower, California.
As for McWhorter, he was a consistent visitor in Fayetteville and he spent plenty of time in camps and on visits learning from Pittman.
“I wasn’t looking for something crazy, the best facilities or something like that,” McWhorter told HawgBeat in August. “Coach Pittman is the guy I want to play for and Arkansas has everything that I need. It’s a place I can flourish as an offensive lineman. Those schools have great stuff and great people but it didn’t feel the same for me as Arkansas.”
As for the billboard idea back in 2021, McWhorter said his dad was behind it.
“My dad was in the billboard business for a while, he owned a company,” McWhorter told HawgBeat. “So that was kind of his expertise. After I visited all my schools that summer, he had that idea. He asked what school I wanted to do it on, and Arkansas was my favorite.”

Sam Pittman and Arkansas football suffered another loss on the recruiting trail on Sunday evening. 2026 three-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter announced his de-commitment from the Razorbacks with a post to his X (formerly Twitter) account.
The White, GA native previously committed to Pittman and the Hogs back in August of last year, becoming the second Arkansas pledge of the 2026 class. 247Sports has McWhorter rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 48 overall interior offensive lineman in the country. He's also a three-star in the industry-generated Composite Rankings.
"De-committing is something that never even crossed my mind last August when I committed to the Razorbacks," McWhorter said in his post.
Fans might remember McWhorter as the recruit who placed a billboard along I-49 back in 2021, in an effort to get Pittman and staff to recruit him. "Coach Pittman, I want to be a Hog" the billboard read. He tweeted a picture of the billboard after his commitment last year, with the caption "didn't lie."
"I wanted to go be coached by the best O-line coaches in the business and be in one of the most beautiful areas in the country while doing it," McWhorter told HawgSports following his commitment last year. "I also get to play in front of the most passionate fan base in college football."
The Cass High School product currently holds offers from schools such as Alabama, Auburn Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and a host of others. With McWhorter no longer commitment, the Razorbacks are down to just one pledge for the 2026 class - three-star defensive back Tay Lockett from Bellflower (Calif.) and St. John Bosco High School.

Arkansas landed its second verbal commitment for the Class of 2026 on Saturday when Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside offensive lineman Tucker Young went public with his decision to call the Hogs. Young, 6-4, 300, announced his decision at the end of the Razorbacks' Hogwild Hangout cookout event in Fayetteville (Ark.).
Young was recruited to Arkansas by offensive line coach Eric Mateos, who extended an offer in June following an impressive camp performance by the Hot Springs native.
"I had a great time meeting new people especially, the 2025 offensive lineman commits," Young said. "I plan to have an official visit and visit a game in the next couple months. The reason I committed is the fact that this is my dream school and the coaching staff is exactly what I want in a college, and I get along great with Coach Mateos and Coach Pittman."
In addition to Young, who hasn't yet been ranked by 247Sports, the Razorbacks own another early commitment from 2026 safety Tay Lockett of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco. Lockett was also in attendance for Saturday's event on The Hill.

Head coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas football team landed their second commitment for the class of 2026 on Saturday, as offensive lineman Tucker Young announced his pledge to the Razorbacks.
A 6-foot-5, 300-pound Hot Springs native, Young committed after visiting Fayetteville for the Hogs' HogWild Hangout. Young had also received an offer from Memphis.
The HogWild Hangout was Young's second trip to Fayetteville. His first came on June 13, the same day he received an offer after a strong camp showing at Arkansas.
Young had high praise for Arkansas offensive line coach Eric Mateos, saying he was the best he'd talked to.
"He's great," Young said. "He's the best lineman coach I've ever been around out of all the colleges I've ever been to camp to and talked to. He's a great coach."
Young is the Razorbacks' second commit in the class of 2026, as he joins four-star defensive back Tay Lockett from St. John Bosco in Southern California.

Arkansas received its third verbal commitment for the Class of 2026 on Wednesday when Gaffney (S.C.) quarterback Jayvon Gilmore went public with his college decision. Gilmore, 6-5, 195, chose the Razorbacks over three other finalists in North Carolina State, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.
Gilmore, who was recruited to Fayetteville by offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, also held scholarship offers from Boston College, UCF, Wake Forest, East Carolina and others. Petrino and the Razorbacks offered on May 13 and hosted Gilmore for Saturday's Hogwild Hangout.
"Throughout my recruiting the Hogs never stop loving and caring about me," Gilmore said. "Since day 1 of our process of us talking, Arkansas has flat out showed us they didn't want any quarterback in my class but me. So when we arrived at the Hogwild Hangout, there was no other place I would rather be."
Gilmore is a three-star prospect, the nation's No. 19 quarterback, and the 4th overall prospect in South Carolina for the Class of 2026, per 247Sports. The Composite rankings have him considerably lower, however, at No. 37 among all quarterbacks and 9th overall in his home state.
As a sophomore at Ben Lippen in Columbia last season, Gilmore completed 118 of 226 attempts (53%) for 1,767 yards and 22 touchdowns against seven interceptions while rushing for another 112 yards.
Prior to landing a commitment from Gilmore, Arkansas' last and only signee from South Carolina was in 2022 when offensive lineman Eli Henderson signed with the Hogs out of Byrnes High in Duncan. Henderson went on medical redshirt after last season.
Gilmore is Petrino's third quarterback addition since returning to Fayetteville, joining transfers Taylen Green (Boise State) and Blake Boda (Coastal Carolina).

Arkansas offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino got his quarterback for the class of 2026 on Thursday, as three-star gunslinger Jayvon Gilmore announced his commitment to the Razorbacks.
The Gaffney, South Carolina, native chose the Hogs over offers from NC State, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Texas A&M.
As a sophomore for Ben Lippen High School, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound dual-threat signal caller threw for 1,767 yards and 22 touchdowns and added 112 yards on the ground in 11 games.
Arkansas extended its offer to Gilmore on May 13. He recently took a visit to Fayetteville last weekend for the HogWild Hangout, and saw enough to know Arkansas was his future home.
Following Gilmore’s commitment, Arkansas now sits with three recruits in the fold for the class of 2026. He joins four-star defensive back Tay Lockett and offensive lineman Tucker Young.

Gilmore is the No. 466 overall prospect and No. 36 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 9 player in South Carolina.
The 6-foot-6, 195-pounder opted for the Hogs after taking a trip to Fayetteville last week.

Durant (Okla.) Top247 edge rusher Colton Yarbrough has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks for the Class of 2026. Yarbrough, 6-5, 220, announced his college decision at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, choosing the Razorbacks over four other finalists in Oklahoma State, Georgia, LSU and Colorado.
Yarbrough, the nation's No. 147 prospect and top 2026 prospect in Oklahoma per 247Sports, also held offers from Miami, Oregon, Tennessee, USC, Kansas State and others.
Yarbrough was recruited to Fayetteville by Arkansas defensive line coach Deke Adams, who extended a scholarship offer on May 14, 2022. Adams hosted Yarbrough on multiple unofficial visits in the last calendar year, including last Saturday when the defensive end attended the Hogwild Hangout recruiting event.
"The energy and vibe was great," Yarbrough said following his visit. "Coach Adams has been as consistent as anyone in the country recruiting me,"
According to 247Sports, Yarbrough is the No. 17 edge rusher in the nation for the 2026 cycle.
In addition to Yarbrough, the Razorbacks have three other Class of 2026 commitments in Gaffney (S.C.) three-star quarterback Jayvon Gilmore, Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside three-star offensive tackle Tucker Young, and three-star safety Tay Lockett of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.
After landing Yarbrough, the Hogs' 2026 class ranks 11th in the nation and sixth in the SEC.

The top overall prospect in the state of Oklahoma is now off the board.
Durant (Okla.) four-star and Rivals250 weakside defensive end Colton Yarbrough has announced his commitment to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Yarbrough is the No. 112 overall prospect in the 2026 Rivals250 as well as the top ranked prospect in the state of Oklahoma. He chose the Razorbacks over Oklahoma State, Georgia, Colorado, and LSU.
Yarbough spoke with Rivals to discuss his decision.
The longevity of the staff in Fayetteville and the relationships that have been built to this point were the driving factors. He also trusts he will be developed at this position.
"They've all been really consistent since I was in eighth grade. And coach (Deke) Adams develops defensive ends there, guys you see like Landon Jackson. And it's a beautiful campus too."
The decision comes after Yarbrough made a quick visit to Arkansas a week ago, where he was able to just spend some time on campus. Coming out of that visit, he was comfortable with making the decision.
"They've always been like the top school for me to be honest, but I mean, they never tried to pressure me into committing or anything and I respect that."
Yarbrough is the fourth commitment in the 2026 class for Arkansas and the second four-star of the bunch.
The addition also propels the Razorbacks from from the No. 26 class in the cycle to No. 11.

Approximately 30 minutes after landing Top247 edge rusher Colton Yarbrough, Arkansas landed another key commitment in Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon when MacArthur safety Adam Auston announced in favor of the Razorbacks.
Auston, who visited Fayetteville last weekend for the Hogwild Hangout event, chose Sam Pittman's Razorbacks over four other finalists in Missouri, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Kansas State. His offer list also included Texas Tech, Washington State, Vanderbilt, UNLV, Houston, and Iowa State.
Auston, 6-2, 212, was recruited to The Hill by defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson. With the addition of Auston, Arkansas' 2026 class moves past Oklahoma to eighth nationally and fourth in the SEC.
According to 247Sports, Auston is a three-star prospect with a grade of 89, the 24th safety in the country, and the 4th overall prospect in the state of Oklahoma's 2026 class. The industry-generated Composite rankings have him ranked lower, as the 34th safety in the nation and fifth in his home state.
As a sophomore, Auston posted 92 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions that were both returned for touchdowns, 4 pass break-ups, a forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries.
In addition to Auston and Yarbrough, the Razorbacks have three other Class of 2026 commitments in Gaffney (S.C.) three-star quarterback Jayvon Gilmore, Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside three-star offensive tackle Tucker Young, and three-star safety Tay Lockett of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.

Arkansas doubles up on their Oklahoma snags today as they land their second commitment in the last 30 minutes.
Lawton (Okla.) MacArthur three-star safety Adam Auston has committed to the Razorbacks.
Auston chose Arkansas over Oklahoma State, Baylor, Missouri, and Kansas State.
As mentioned above, Auston is the second prospect from Oklahoma to commit to Arkansas today. He joins 2026 four-star defensive end Colton Yarbrough, who Auston has a relationship with. The two workout with the same personal trainer, Sean Cooper and C4 Sports.
The 6-foot-2, 200 pound defensive back touched on why he felt comfortable with the Razorbacks.
“I had a great visit where they showed so much love. When I went up there, it felt like home and the coaches were great to my family. They have been consistent through the whole process so after that visit I decided that's where I wanted to be."
Auston is the fifth commitment in the 2026 class for Arkansas.

Fayetteville (Ark.) safety Kyndrick Williams has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Williams, 6-1, 195, went public with his decision on Thursday, becoming the Hogs' sixth commitment for the Class of 2026.
Williams, who is unranked by 247Sports, chose the in-state Razorbacks over Central Arkansas and UNLV. He was recruited to the hometown school by defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson, who extended an offer to Williams in late July and hosted him on an unofficial visit last weekend.
In addition to Williams, the Razorbacks have five other Class of 2026 commitments in Gaffney (S.C.) three-star quarterback Jayvon Gilmore, Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside three-star offensive tackle Tucker Young, four-star defensive end Colton Yarbrough of Durant (Okla.), three-star safety Adam Auston of Lawton (Okla.) MacArthur, and three-star safety Tay Lockett of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.
The Hogs have 22 commitments for the current class of 2025, including nine on the offensive side in three-star quarterback Grayson Wilson of Conway (Ark.), three-star athlete Quentin Murphy of Little Rock (Ark.) Parkview, three-star running back Markeylin Batton of Atlanta (Texas), three-star wide receiver Antonio Jordan, three-star wide receiver Kamare Williams of West Palm Beach (Fla.) The Arkansas Razorbacks added to their 2026 class with a homegrown product on Thursday, as Fayetteville defensive back Kyndrick Williams announced his pledge.
Williams took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his decision to stay home.
The 6-foot--1, 185-pound defensive back most recently took a visit to Arkansas this past weekend for the Razorbacks' home opener against Alabama-Birmingham.
Arkansas extended the offer on July 26 at the Razorbacks' HogWild Hangout recruiting event.
Williams chose Arkansas over just one other offer so far — UNLV, which is coached by former Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom.
Williams' decision puts Arkansas at six commits in the class of 2026, which currently ranks No. 11 in the country according to Rivals.

After winding down his list of schools earlier in November, 2026 four-star athlete Dequane Prevo finally decided on the Arkansas Razorbacks as his future home Sunday evening.
The Rivals250 Texarkana, Texas, native chose the Hogs over Oklahoma, Penn State and Texas but also held offers from Florida, Oregon, Texas A&M, USC and others. Prevo visited Fayetteville for the Texas game Nov. 16.
Listed at 5-foot-11, 164-pounds, Prevo recorded 1,039 yards and 15 total touchdowns on 47 receptions through 10 games for Liberty-Eylau High School. That works out to 22.1 yards per catch and 103.9 yards per game.
Following Prevo's pledge, Arkansas now has 7 commitments in the class of 2026. He joins defensive end Colton Yarbrough and defensive back Tay Lockett as four-stars in the group.

Texarkana (Texas) Liberty-Eylau 2026 four-star wide receiver Dequane Prevo has committed to Arkansas. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound junior is the No. 253 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and he chose the Razorbacks over Oklahoma, Penn State and Texas.
“I have known coach Sam Pittman for a long time and that relationship was key,” Prevo told On3. “Arkansas offered me early and I have been talking with coach Pittman for a few years now. He is a great man, he is a great coach and he cares about his players. Our relationship is great.”
Wide receivers coach Ronnie Fouch is Prevo’s lead recruiter. They have a strong relationship too and the new commit likes he develops receivers.
Prevo sees an opportunity to play early for coach Fouch and that is one of the reasons he chose the SEC school in Fayetteville.
“I see a great chance to play for good coaching staff at Arkansas. Coach Fouch wants guys like me and he has a plan for me to get on the field. The atmosphere is great, I like the coaching staff and how they recruited me was different.
“It was really an easy decision. It felt right. Arkansas has been recruiting me for a few years and they recruited me hard. They made me feel wanted.”

Arkansas is still putting the finishing touches on its 2025 signing class but added another key commitment for the Class of 2026 on Friday when Rockwall (Texas) defensive back Jack Duckworth announced his college decision. Duckworth, 6-0, 170, is the Razorbacks' second 2026 commitment of the last week, joining Texarkana (Texas) Liberty-Eylau wide receiver Dequane Prevo, who committed to the Hogs on Sunday.
Duckworth, whose father is originally from southeast Arkansas, chose the Razorbacks over Arizona State, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, Boston College, SMU and several others. He has yet to be rated by 247Sports, therefore the Hogs remained put at 10th in the nation and fifth in the SEC for the Class of 2026 recruiting rankings.
Duckworth was recruited to Fayetteville by defensive backs coaches Deron Wilson and Marcus Woodson.
In addition to Duckworth and Prevo, the Hogs also have commitments from Durant (Okla.) four-star edge rusher Colton Yarbrough, Gaffney (S.C.) quarterback Jayvon Gilmore, Lawton (Okla.) Macarthur safety Adam Auston, San Diego (Calif.) University City safety Tay Lockett, Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside offensive lineman Tucker Young, and Fayetteville (Ark.) safety Kyndrick Williams.

Arkansas added a commitment Friday from 2026 athlete Jack Duckworth out of Rockwall High School in Rockwall, Texas. Duckworth is the eighth commitment in the 2026 recruiting class for the Razorbacks.
Duckworth chose the Hogs over offers from programs such as Wisconsin, SMU, Pittsburgh, Arizona State and others. It looks like Duckworth was recruited by secondary coach Deron Wilson and co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson, so there is likely a possibility that he's being recruited as a defensive back.
According to a Nov. 25 post on X, Duckworth tallied 34 receptions for 472 yards and six touchdowns for Rockwall this season. He also added one interception as a defensive back on the year and he had 718 all purpose yards.

Arkansas is Williams’ lone offer, but he’s garnered interest from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Southern Miss and others.
With Williams’ commitment, Arkansas now sits at nine in the class of 2026. He’s the second commit of the day and joins athlete Jack Duckworth, who committed on Friday morning.

Arkansas has received a commitment from 2027 in-state offensive lineman Bradley Sturdivant, HawgBeat confirmed Sunday. Deltaplex News first reported the commitment.
A 6-foot-3, 300-pound tackle and guard, Sturdivant can bench press 320 pounds, squat 455 pounds and runs a 40-yard dash of 5.3 seconds, according to his X bio. Arkansas offered Sturdivant on Jan. 16.
The Sheridan native is the first commitment in the 2027 class for the Razorbacks, who hosted Sturdivant (and many others) over the weekend for Junior Day.

Sheridan (Ark.) Class of 2027 offensive lineman Bradley Sturdivant has committed to the University of Arkansas. Arkansas offered Sturdivant, 6-3, 300, just 10 days ago on Jan. 16, which he called a 'lifelong dream.'
While Sheridan has rarely produced Razorback football players, first-year head coach Kevin Kelly has sent numerous players to The Hill from his time as the Pulaski Academy head coach, including standouts like Remington Award winner Jonathan Luigs and Mackey Award winner Hunter Henry.
"I consider it a great honor to be committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks," Sturdivant told HawgSports. "I love the state of Arkansas and feel so much support. Arkansas has a tremendous athletic and academic program and the best. I have worked hard to get to this point and wouldn't have been able to do it without my family coaches and teammates."
Sturdivant is a member of Prep Redzone's Sophomore All-State team. He played left tackle for the Yellowjackets this past season but could be looked at to play inside for the Hogs, depending on whether or not he continues to get taller.
"Excited to say I'm committed to the Arkansas razorbacks," Sturdivant announced on X Sunday morning.
"A lifelong dream happened just now. I am so excited to be offered a scholarship to play FB for ?@RazorbackFB! So thankful to my teammates & coaches! Time to work harder than ever!" he stated after receiving the offer.
Sturdivant is the first commitment for Arkansas' 2027 recruiting class.

Arkansas gained its ninth verbal commitment for the Class of 2026 on Monday when Farmerville (La.) Union Parish defensive lineman Ari Slocum went public with his choice.
The 6-3, 309-pound prospect is a quick addition for the Razorbacks, who extended a scholarship offer on January 11 when Slocum made the 5-hour drive from northern Louisiana. Slocum chose the Hogs over Missouri and Purdue, and by all accounts appears to be a raw talent with big potential, but Arkansas' commitment total can't be overlooked.
The Razorbacks' nine verbal pledges ties Penn State and Boston College for second-most in the country, and it's well ahead of where Sam Pittman's program was a year ago on this date. Arkansas had just four commitments at this point last year and two of them eventually came off the board (running back Jamarion Parker signed with Nebraska and kicker Evan Noel went with Florida in the end).
The other two early commitments for the Hogs included homegrown quarterback Grayson Wilson, and a two-way weapon in Markeylin Batton. Arkansas added a big one in early February when Carius Curne jumped on board, but we all know how that one ended with Curne landing at LSU.
In other words, there seems to be less cloud cover over Pittman's staff this offseason, and I'm not sure that would be the case had Arkansas lost its bowl game to Texas Tech in late December.
No, no one expects this 2026 Razorback class to maintain its position of eighth nationally and fifth in the SEC over the next year. But this is a class that we've pointed to for a while as a potential bounce-back cycle for Pittman and the Hogs, and so far, it appears to be moving in a positive direction.
It's not just the quantity at play, either, as one of Arkansas' commits has yet to receive an evaluation from 247Sports. There's a 247Sports four-star in Colton Yarbrough, an edge from Durant (Okla.) who seems more than locked in with his decision. There's another Composite four-star in Texarkana (Texas) Liberty-Eylau athlete Dequane Prevo.
Gaffney (S.C.) quarterback Jayvon Gilmore is just outside of four-star status, as is Lawton (Okla.) Macarthur safety Adam Auston. Fellow safety Tay Lockett of San Diego (Calif.) University City is another highly-rated three-star with a four-star offer list.
Arkansas also has commitments from three-star offensive lineman Tucker Young of Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside, three-star Rockwall (Texas) wide receiver Jack Duckworth, and unranked safety Kyndrick Williams of Fayetteville High.
Who might be next for the Hogs? It's taking the easy route, but this time of year usually belongs to the local guys, which makes instate receiver Blair Irvin III one to watch just up the road in Bentonville. These last two Arkansas commitments - Slocum on Monday and 2027 instate lineman Bradley Sturdivant on Sunday - were both the result of offers that were extended earlier this month, and Irvin would fall in that category, as well.

Following Slocum's commitment, the Razorbacks now have nine pledges for their No. 10 ranked class of 2026.
