AU looks like a Final Four lock. They won’t lose a game at home and might only have 1-2 road losses in the SEC. None of their games are close.

They may go undefeated in SEC play. They were awarded the easiest schedule for the umpteenth straight time. What do we have to do to get easier schedules in all sports?

No such thing as a final four lock but they have been amazing so far. Broome dominates every single game and their perimeter players have all been great shooters this year. Hopefully the magic ends and it’s not a 6 month long heater

I keep hoping but they just keep looking better and better. They’re one of the best CBB teams I’ve ever seen, which absolutely sucks.

If we could shoot like them I think we wouldn’t be too far behind from a statistical standpoint. 40% from 3 vs. 30% from 3 means 9+ points per game on the margin for us since we attempt 31 or so per game.

I went on Torvik and removed the North Dakota game and our defense is 29th without that game.

That’s pretty fkn good.

Looking at our SEC schedule, we really need to start strong. It’s definitely back-loaded. First half includes home games against OU, Ole Miss, Vandy, LSU, and Georgia, and road games at USC, A&M, Kentucky, and State. If we don’t go at least 7-2 it’ll be tough to keep pace given the back half (home games against AU, Kentucky, State, Florida, and road games at Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Tennessee, and Auburn).

That first game is no joke. OU will come in at 10 or 11 in the polls and undefeated. If ever there were a year to not get to high off of quality wins, this would be it.

Can someone explain to me how Houston and Maryland are in front of us in the net rankings? There appears to be no logic where either of those guys should even remotely be close to us.

NET gives you bonus points for winning big and we haven't done much of that. It's kind of a blind spot in the rankings early on. It should get sorted out in conference play, but essentially Houston has lost close ones to the best teams on their schedule and beaten the piss out of nearly everyone else to the tune of 20+ point beatdowns, so they get a huge efficiency boost to cover up the lack of quality wins while still being credited for playing us, the Barn, and SDSU even though they lost all 3.

Thanks for the info... That's bizarre. Houston has 5 quad 4 wins and Maryland has 7. Collectively between the 2 of them they have a total of 1 quad 1 win.... I thought the whole purpose of the net was to punish teams for feasting on the Q4's, makes no sense to reward them for pummeling them...

Agree, but it tries to take into account whether beating a Q2 by 5 is better than beating a Q4 by 40. It’s not perfect, but it’s the reason we got a 4 seed last year instead of a 6-7 seed with our actual W/L record. We absolutely crushed Q2 and Q3 OOC games last year, and lost close on good Q1 games. Think we were ranked pretty high in NET this time last year despite 5 OOC losses and not being in the AP top 25. This year we’re ranked 5 in AP with only 2 OOC losses, but NET is around where we were last year due to close wins in Q2-Q4 games this season.

Should be a fun conference slate of games, and even if we hit a lull and take some losses, there’s still hope that we can get hot in March as the talent will be there.

It also holds up in the 50s and 60s if you limit it to just Quad 1 or Quad 1&2 games

NET isn't based on Quad wins/losses at all, it's merely the statistical analytics used to rank teams (which are then divided into the Quads).

I don't think KenPon/ Torvik have any type of input for wins or losses but only consider stats from the games.

So, Houston v Alabama going to OT on a neutral court means the statistical input is pretty much Alabama = Houston regardless of who wins.

It's the committee's job to then consider respective Quad records in seeding not the raw NET ranking.

And, yes, the way to sort of 'game' NET is to beat decent teams by 35 that most other top teams only beat by 10. I'd also add that holding teams to horrible FG% like Houston and Tennessee seems to play perhaps an overly big role.

If you are looking to unload 2, I’d be happy to take them. My wife’s mom is visiting from Texas, and we thought we’d take her to a game. I’ve got 4, but need 6 to take the whole fam.
