Seems like every 3 we take this year is open and in rhythm though.
That's the good edge of the double-edged sword of Nelson at the 5. We end up giving up rim protection and become very susceptible to elite post scorers, which hurts our defensive numbers (see: Purdue, Auburn). However, that stretch 5 allows you to space the floor and forces the other team to either not help (opening the drive) or give up open, rhythm threes.

If Oats ever finds a rim-protecting 5 who can shoot from deep (Brook Lopez type) it would make us virtually unstoppable. Hopefully Aiden Sherrell can be that guy.

Even if he's not I think it's only a matter of time before we sign a player like you are describing. If shooting 3s is a strength of your game is there a better system to play in anywhere outside of pro leagues? We aren't going to sign all the best 3pt shooters obviously, but we're going to have a chance with all of the ones we want to sign.

It’s not, but ok.

Currently the #4 best offense of the KenPom era and by far the best Oats offense at Alabama.

Oats has never had an Alabama team in the top 140 nationally in 3 Pt %. This one is gonna be top 50 or 25.

So, yea, it is. - SOG

Top 25, lol. No.

Currently #12

To go along with "Why would you take Wrightsell?"

And? This post was only bumped because of his recent production. Cosby is better. His stats will fall back to what they were.

Shooting 42% from 3PT (15-36) and is #2 in the SEC in Offensive Rating since this post on 1/30 .

He then doubled down on Wrightsell after I bumped it. Clown

And Wrightsell continued to do exactly what he'd been doing for 2 months

We should definitely be able to attract talent that meets that criteria. The problem is "~7'0" rim protector with a 30%+ outside stroke who can run the floor" applies to an exceedingly rare number of people, so when we do find one we'll only have them around one season.

This team doesn't just take a bunch of 3's, they are elite at shooting them. We have not been elite at making 3s previously under Oats. This group is.

I guess Nate wasn't just talking shite before the season that this is the best shooting team he's ever had.

Stevenson has been better than Clowney

I dont know about that. Clowney was a beast for us. He was a lot tougher than Stevenson.

But Clowney hit an absolute wall on 3s mid season. I think that's what he's referring to. Clowney was obviously better overall. But he got hit early from 3, then went to shite.

Clowney imo never seemed completely healthy after he fell in the UNC game.

Most definitely. Clowney was 10x the player Stevenson is thus far. Clowney was a great rebounder and could defend. Stevenson needs another year or two.

Holy shite! I just found out that T. J. Otzelberger played under Nate Oats at Wisconsin-Whitewater when Oats was an assistant, before he coached high school. Small world.

Somebody posted this in the Bama Hoops community. This is reassuring. This also lines up with when Izzo plans on retiring.

We need to get him that Arena.

Oats could be the most successful coach in the history of Alabama basketball and take this program to places it's never been.......cant really do that at Mich State, Kentucky, or any of the blue blood programs

No clue if that guy knows what he's talking about, but I have wondered the same thing. He is a family guy above everything else. His oldest is a freshman at UA, and I think the middle one is a freshman in high school. I think that gives us a shot at keeping him for a bit, even if a big name comes calling (as long as we pay him).
