re: I’m so ready to see a normal offense in football. More excited than I’ve been in years.

Anybody ever had a different story or is that how they all work out?
I performed a smash and dash on our JV QB's girlfriend in a dugout one night and he cried to his dad (who was our coach) like a bitch and had me kicked off the team. She wasn't even that fine but he was such a major tool, I did it just to spite him.
My coach and the vice principal had a sit down with my parents and I denied it like a mother fricker. Thank frick we didn't have text messaging back in 2006 as my dad would have butchered me.
Never played another down but still have no regrets.

The main thing I want to see is offensive efficiency and consistency. I don't care what the run/pass ratio is as long as it produces an effective, consistent offense. I'm sure there will be games where we pass a lot more than we run, but if that's what it takes to win that game then I'm good with it. I'll also wager there'll be games where we run the ball more than DeBoer and Grubb are used to because that's what will be required to win the game. The main objective is to win the games, not to get to some pre-determined run/pass ratio.

From your mouth to God’s ears.
I wish someone could go back and document the number of wide-arse-open plays we wasted last year because we couldn’t execute when we needed to. If we could have cashed even half of them in we’d have been in great shape.

We've had garbage O line play the last few years. That's the biggest issue on offense... You can't efficiently run much of anything when nobody is blocking.

All made worse by a QB that simply could not read a defense and slide protections or make the correct read to either keep or hand the ball to a RB. How often did we see Jalen choose to keep it for minimal or no gain, only for a huge running lane to open up where the RB would have gone on the play? Quite often.
So, I won't blame it all on the OLine, even though they played poorly at times. But still, compounded by a guy that had no clue how to navigate the pocket and enjoyed running himself into sacks even when protection was good.

I think we need to reset expectations and treat this more like year 1 than we probably want to. The Milroe season was just a wash.
Agreed 100%

I expect a pass/run ratio of 60/40 which is about what DeBoer/Grubb have historically done. However, any coach worth their salt adapts and adjusts as they go through their career. Last year was DeBoer's first year in the SEC and there's no way he didn't see a difference in coaching in the SEC compared to the PAC 12 or anywhere else he's been. So I'm curious if he thinks he needs to establish the run a little more than he's traditionally done or will he continue with his 60/40 ratio?
60/40 pass/run is about the norm these days. The real question is how he adjusts to the talent. If he ends up signing the next great Alabama tailback, does he move closer to 50/50 or even 40/60?

Zero chance Alabama runs it 60% of the time if he's got a QB he has faith in.

Yes I don’t understand why people think DeBoer is going to change his entire coaching philosophy. He’s an air raid coach.
Don’t forget we basically swapped to an air raid team before Milroe btw.

In todays landscape, you can air raid and still recruit top RBs because they will be the ball out of the backfield on dump offs and designed rb routes.
If you run the ball 60% of the time it’s going to be impossible to recruit more than one decent WR at a time.
If you can win it doesn’t really matter, but I think you have to have a special OL to win with running the ball and that’s rare.

Even before Milroe, Bama was running the air raid with BY. Havent had a good running game in years

The OL wasn’t getting great push, I just don’t know what was them vs what was defenses loading the box against Milroe because he couldn’t make adjustments.

Milroe was tipping plays all season with his foot placement and couldnt adjust protection or call hot routes.
We played 5 top 10 defenses. You tell them run/pass when they know they don’t have to worry about slants or audibles and you’re going to have carnage at the LOS.
I’m not excusing all of it, life isn’t that black and white.
Our tackles were both slow off the ball because they were too fat.
Our RG was injured the entire season and playing at 75%.
But you can’t put any OL at a disadvantage like we did against elite competition and expect them to play effectively.

Amen. The last 4 years of scramble drill is ruining my nerves.

Grubb isn't a running offense guy. Y'all going to be upset if you trying we're running it 50% of the time.

Pritchett might not have been good, but as OLs go he actually looked pretty good physically. The other OT, not so much. And considering that he’s out with injury for workouts and spring ball, I’m expecting more of the same from him in 2025 if he even “earns” the job back. Or is earning a starting job at Alabama even a thing these days?

The entire program has been blah since 2020. Winning on pure talent alone. Coaching has been abysmal.
