Sheridan isn’t going anywhere.
He literally had it make it super easy for Milroe and he still couldn’t do it.
Look at a lot of the completed passes Milroe made against Michigan… we had to run multiple routes in the same area of the field so Milroe could see it all at once. The one too outz and one of the large gains to Bernard were routes that slid in behind another route where the first route took the coverage away.
BRILLIANT route designs and calls on those plays but it only worked because Milroe could see all the routes by looking in one direction.
He doesn’t know how to scan a field pre play and have an idea of who will be open. He just randomly looks one way or the other, or he looks for the main receiver on the play and if it doesn’t work we’re fricked.

I think Sheridan is safe on the staff if he wants to be but I do think if Grubb wants to be here he will have his role changed.

The run there at the end made my teeth hurt, I would like to hear what the coaches were thinking there, but overall I can’t fault the play calling against Michigan. One of the yahoos at Al.com did but just like the average sports writer, he’s going by “the play didn’t work, so it was a bad call.” He didn’t pay any attention to the people who were open all over the field pretty much for 60 minutes, the main person responsible for executing the plays just couldn’t do it.

I partially agree about Sheridan. He kind of felt like a "passing game coordinator" rather than a full OC to me, if that makes sense. A lot of our pass play designs were fantastic. Guys were open for chunk plays all the time and Milroe just didn't see them. Not a fan of how he used the run game though. Milroe couldn't make zone reads and just ended up keeping the ball on plays that were well blocked for the RB, but we never adjusted to call more plays where he didn't have the option to keep it.

I noticed that DeBoer has a play sheet on the sideline. I wonder how the dynamic worked between he, Sheridan and Milroe during the game. Did DeBoer ever call plays?
I personally feel Sheridan would be fine with a real QB and competent OL coaching and play

Same thing we did with Rees last year, flooded one side of the field with routes to make it easier for him to see guys
Anytime we split them out, he missed blatantly open people

You say that but remember the guy we got from Miami? He had great dl at Mizzou but he hated recruiting.

Recruit kids willing to stay that long. The typical gym rat from Dakota isn't bag chasing.

If you think Nick Sheridan is an issue...please hit the TRANSFER PORTAL yourself.
Every game we lost...we had guys RUNNING WIDE TF OPEN! What more do you want the man to do?
On top of that...we ran the same play twice in a series because Jalen Milroe would miss the wide open person.
Again...how is the OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR the issue?

But he needs to call plays suited around Milroe’s abilities!!!!!!
It’s not Milroe’s fault he cannot hit wide open receivers down the middle or keep the ball inbounds when receivers are running down the sidelines.
Sheridan should have schemed plays around Milroe’s strengths which were literally nothing.

Any college quarterback should be able to hit a wide open crossing route.

Apparently Tommy Rees can do that...
He is better than Sheridan and Saban still processed him

Milroe regressed this year. Rees got more out of him the previous year, and Milroe was equally flawed in 2023.
As a QB coach and OC, I don’t know how you could say that Sheridan did a good job this year. And yes I’m acknowledging that his materials weren’t the greatest.

Let’s not forget that the first few games Ryan Williams was making crazy catches and runs and the second half the year he was dropping everything.
Williams really sucked the second half of the year. I think fame got to him on campus.

He's the same damn player. Tricks coaches with his "highs" but his lows are NAIA level.
Difference is Saban told Rees to change the calling to play to Milroe's strengths while Sheridan was stubborn trying to turn him into a pocket passer.
I don't care if Milroe thinks he's a pocket passer or wants to be one so why run your offense that way if your refuse to play Ty Simpson?
In the end the hope is with a new OL coach and a better passing QB, Sheridan's positives will be shown however one thing is true; Sheridan struggles badly to adjust and adapt. Downvote, insult me, whatever... it's the truth.
